Position: Secondary Special Education Teacher, Part Time Location: Glen Lake Middle School Reports to: Middle School Principal Pay Rate: Starting salary is based on the GLFT Master Agreement. Schedules can be found on page 24 of the Master Agreement. Start Date: August 2024 Our special education part time teacher will be responsible for the day-to-day planning, delivery and record keeping of instruction to students with special needs. Oversee the education for the whole child including academic, social, emotional and behavior growth and development. Coordinate ancillary services, schedule, write, and conduct annual Individualized Educational Plans, and oversee all aspects of the child with our team of educators. Responsible for implementing best practices of multi-tiered systems of support in order to increase student achievement and achieve the goals set out in the district’s strategic plan. Work in collaboration with general education teachers to ensure success in all classes. Qualifications: ? Deep understanding of adolescent development ? Experience working with middle school students ? Ability to work independently with a sense of urgency to focus on student progress ? Dependable, reliable, and protective of sensitive/confidential information ? Passion to support the safety, care, and mental health of students ? Understand that connections are essential to foster learning ? Understand that high expectations are necessary for all students ? Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution. ? Valid State of Michigan Teaching Certificate or alternative vocational certification per State of Michigan. ? Highly qualified Special Education Degree ? Understand the importance of a whole child philosophy ? Show passion, enthusiasm and love in supporting students and staff Responsibilities: ? Teach the district approved curriculum and resources. ? Plan, prepare and deliver instructional lessons, with clear objectives, that facilitate active learning experiences in line with the district’s academic goals. ? Provide specialized instruction in the areas of need for each student as determined by the IEP. ? Create an inviting atmosphere where students feel safe and comfortable to learn ? Use relevant technology to support instruction. ? Observe, encourage, monitor and evaluate student's performance and development. ? Provide summative data each quarter for reporting student progress. ? Maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development. ? Update and/or complete all necessary records and reports accurately as required by state and federal laws, district policies and school regulations. ? Participate in team meetings, school meetings and parent meetings. ? Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs. ? Keep up to date with developments in subject areas, teaching resources and methods and make relevant changes to instructional plans and activities. ? Be a continual learner who enjoys attending professional development opportunities ? Attend special events held to recognize student achievement, and school sponsored activities as necessary. ? Performs other duties and tasks as assigned. Other qualifications are considered in the final selection of a person to fill this important position.
