Job Title : Emergent Bilingual (EB) Teacher Support Specialist

Reports to : Executive Director for Teaching and Learning

Dept. / School : Curriculum and Instruction

Wage / Hour Status : Exempt

Pay Grade : A17

Duty Days : 197

Primary Purpose :

To develop and implement new language instruction educational programs and academic content instruction programs for LEP students.

To carry out highly focused, innovative, locally designed activities to expand or enhance existing language instruction educational programs and academic content instruction educational programs and academic content instruction for LEP students.

Qualifications :

  • Master’s Degree preferred.
  • 3 years of teaching experience in elementary or secondary education with EB students (with experience in the level of the of the specified job)
  • A comprehensive understanding and working knowledge of curriculum, instructional technology, and At-Risk Education
  • Demonstrated competency in the instruction of reading.
  • Strong organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to provide campus level staff development.
  • Bilingual (preferred)

Major Responsibilities and Duties :

  • To assist all EB students to achieve at high levels in the core academic subjects and achieve standards required in Title III, Part A.
  • To develop high-quality language instruction educational programs designed to assist schools in teaching EB.
  • Support teachers in a variety of ways to enhance instruction and experiences for students :
  • Model lessons for teachers.
  • Observe teachers to provide feedback.
  • Support teachers with lesson planning.
  • To assist campuses to develop and enhance their capacity to provide high-quality instructional programs designed to prepare EB enter all-English instruction settings.
  • To assist campuses to build their capacity to establish, implement, and sustain language instruction educational programs and programs of English language development for EB students.
  • To promote parental and community participation in language instruction educational programs for the parents and communities of EB students.
  • To streamline language instruction educational programs that help EB students develop proficiency in English while meeting challenging state academic content and student academic achievement standards.
  • To increase English proficiency by providing programs based on scientifically based research demonstrating effectiveness of the programs increasing the following :
  • English proficiency
  • Student academic achievement in the core academic subjects (including native language instruction)
  • To provide supplemental high quality professional development to teachers, principals, administrators, and other school or community-based organizational personnel
  • To improve instructional program by identifying, acquiring, and upgrading curricula, instructional materials, educational software, and assessment procedures
  • To coordinate with campuses supplemental intensified / accelerated instruction for EB To develop language instruction educational programs coordinated with other relevant programs and services.
  • Develop and revise district’s bilingual / ESL curriculum program to meet the requirements, goals, and objectives of Title III Consolidated Application for Federal Funding
  • Present subject matter according to guidelines established by TEA, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Integrating educational technology into the curricula and educational program to strengthen the teaching / learning process.
  • Advise general education teachers on accommodations for English Language Learners
  • Assess needs and order supplemental materials.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  • Participate in the district staff development program.
  • Demonstrate interest and initiative in professional improvement.
  • Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
  • Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Teaching and Learning or designee.

Working Conditions :

Maintain emotional control under stress. Work with frequent interruptions. Repetitive hand motions. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours.

Position requires frequent bending, stooping, twisting, pulling, overhead reaching, sitting, and keyboarding. Position requires the ability to lift 25 pounds to waist high.
