Summary/ObjectiveThe Full-Time Cook will report directly to the Food Service Manager. We are looking for an individual who possess the ability to work as a team, proven knowledge of the basic principles of food preparation, various cooking methods, and food safety regulations such as proper food handling, sanitation, and storage. Excellent verbal communication skills, a high energy level and most important, the ability to effectively communicate with management and residents using excellent customer service skills is essential.
QualificationsEducation: High School degree or equivalent and previous kitchen training/experience is preferred.
Experience: 1-2 years or more in cooking/kitchen work required.

RequirementsESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Work in fast paced kitchen environment
  • Report to work in the standard uniform requirement, uniform includes black or khaki pants or chef pants, non-slip sneakers, chef coat, well-groomed, clean shaven, hair pulled back, and/or ball cap or hairnet must be worn.
  • Arrive on time for shift and be ready to work at designated time, which includes chef coat on and hands washed. This also applies for coming back from breaks.
  • Weekend and holiday work required.
  • Food preparation should be done efficiently, correctly and by the standards of the state required food handling.
  • Follow food production guidelines and recipes as directed by the Food Service Manager
  • Follow Prep Instructions given by the Food Service Manager
  • Food should be served to residents sanitarily, properly and efficiently, this includes wearing gloves when serving food.
  • As directed by the Food Service Manager, work with individual residents when specific dietary needs are necessary.
  • Assist with food planning and preparing for special occasions/socials
  • Keep the Food Service Manager aware of any supplies or food inventory needed in order to properly prepare food as directed.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary work area in the kitchen at all times
  • Follow daily cleaning and day end closing tasks as directed by the Food Service Manager
  • Report any equipment problems to the Food Service Manager immediately.
  • Work constructively and positively with Dining Room Staff when issues with food arise.
  • Work the food service line. Follow food presentation guidelines as directed by the Food Service Manager, assuring all plates dished up are attractively.
  • Follow portion controls as directed by the Food Service Manager
  • In absence of the Food Service Manager, assess food quantities and make adjustments to avoid running out of food within any given shift. Problem solve and improvise in the cases of food shortages, etc.
  • Maintain a professional and respectful relationship with residents at all times.
  • Communicate regularly with the Food Service Manager and make them aware of any department or kitchen concerns.
  • Follow directions given by supervisor and all policies and procedures as outlined in Employee Handbook.
  • Track time worked in Property Management Software.
  • Check company email during every shift worked.
Americans With Disabilities Act (ada) RequirementsPhysical: Frequently required to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs. Must be able to walk, stand, squat, bend, and conduct work in a kitchen environment.
Sensory: May encounter temperatures ranging from 32 degrees to 425 degrees around equipment. Noise level in the work environment is frequently loud. May encounter various odors from kitchen environment. Must be able to speak clearly and understand others using the English language.
Cognitive: Frequently required to concentrate on moderate detail with moderate interruption. Must be able to attend to a task/function for more than 60 minutes at a time. Must be able to understand and relate to specific ideas several at a time and remember multiple tasks/assignments given to self and others over a period of several days.
Equipment: Frequently required to operate kitchen machinery including but not limited to ovens, stovetops, knives, grinders, food processors, etc.
