Job Description

The Certified Ophthalmic Technician reflects the mission, vision, and values of NMHC, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

The Certified Ophthalmic Technician is primarily responsible for technical, clinical support and patient care for various physicians and sub-specialists in the department of ophthalmology. This includes various tests to be performed as well as supporting physicians as their needs arise. This role acts as liaison between patients and physicians, answering questions and providing educational assistance.

Responsibilities:

  • Physician exam work-ups.
  • Documentation requirements per physician expectations and special testing.
  • Ancillary testing, fields, biometries, glasses checks, etc.
  • Patient Communication, messages, pre-post operative teaching and communication and instruction, telephone triage.
  • Surgical instrument preparation, cleaning and maintenance.
  • Equipment maintenance and room preparation.
  • Exam room stocking and cleaning.
  • Ordering of supplies, IOLs, instruments, medications, ocular supplies etc.
  • Instruction of medical students, new employees, residents, fellows and other staff.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Certification as Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT)
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in Ophthalmology field (i.e. as an Ophthalmic Assistant, COA)
  • CPR-BLS certification through American Heart Association

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree
