Working under moderate supervision, utilizes the nursing process and professional standards of practice to provide for the nursing care of the patient undergoing surgery in compliance with the Indiana Nurse Practice Act, regulatory requirements, HIPPA and NKDH organizational, infection prevention, and nursing values, policies and procedures. Delivers care to patient-neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric as defined in respective unit standards.
Job duties include but are not limited to:
Provide direct and individualized nursing care to patients with attention to continuity of care and patient advocacy while maintaining a safe perioperative environment as defined in respective unit RN duties.
Consults and coordinates with other team members, ensuring proper site verification, proper equipment/supplies available prior to a surgery or procedure
Utilizes proper technique when lifting, transferring, and ambulating patients for patient and staff safety.
Provides patient and family teaching
Documents the care completed in the electronic medical record
Ability to maintain calm in emergency situations
Facilitates communication between the physician and patient/family
Preforms pre-surgery/procedure patient assessment and on-gong assessments as needed or prescribed by policy then plans, implements, and evaluates care for patients and families
Provides for accurate care and handling of laboratory specimens
Inventories all items post procedure as appropriate
Uses ethical principles, collaboration, and evidenced based practice to coordinate with patient/family, nursing and interdisciplinary team for excellent care of the patient
Utilizes excellent customer service standards and Studer principles in communicating with patient/family and co-workers through use of verbal amenities, pleasant facial and body expressions as well as pleasant voice tone
Ensures work areas ae clean, orderly and properly stocked
Participates in departmental QAPI process and patient experience initiatives

Qualifications:Required:
Graduate of a nationally accredited nursing ASN or BSN program
Possesses and maintains Indiana RN licensure
Ability to provide compassion, clinical reasoning, decision-making and critical thinking in a therapeutic environment appropriate to age and diagnosis of the patients served.
Excellent oral communication skills to discuss patient care needs.
Written communication skills as well as computer skills for documentation in the medical record
Ability to exercise independent judgment as well as to react quickly, appropriately, and efficiently in any situation
Knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice, as well human and psychosocial needs, and the ability to apply nursing techniques to patient care situations and provide an individualized plan of care to the patient
Demonstrates accountability for own actions, understands own limitations, seeks advice and assistance when necessary, and assumes responsibility for personal growth and skill development
Maintains AHA BLS, ACLS. PALS strongly encouraged in PACU. Unit specific certifications are encouraged.
