The US Chief People and Development Officer will oversee and manage all aspects of the people functions that support the legal practice including, human resources, recruiting, legal talent management, talent development and office administration. This individual works collaboratively with the Chief Operating Officer, Practice Group Leaders, Practice Team Leaders, Partners-in-Charge, Business Services Chiefs, other members of the US executive leadership team, and partners at the firm, and with counterparts across other global regions on various strategic initiatives. This role will report directly to the US Chief Operating Officer and can be located in any of our US offices.
Key accountabilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive people strategy that aligns with the firm’s business objectives and enhances the employee experience across all US offices.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to the US executive leadership team, offering insights and recommendations on people-related matters.
  • Oversee the recruitment, management, and development of talent, including succession planning, performance management, and career development programs for non-partner attorneys and firm personnel at all levels.
  • Assess and advise on the effects of long-term plans for new programs, strategies and regulatory actions, particularly in relation to attracting, motivating, developing and retaining talent.
  • Provide strategic oversight and leadership to office administration and legal support teams, ensuring smooth and effective operations across all offices.
  • Lead the development of forward-thinking compensation and benefits programs that effectively motivate, reward, and safeguard employees, while supporting their overall well-being.
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement across all people-related functions.
  • Foster an inclusive and equitable workplace where personnel feel valued and respected.
  • Ensure team members are motivated to contribute fully to the firm’s objectives, aligned with the firm's ethics and culture, and supported with relevant development opportunities and coaching.
Candidate Profile:
  • Senior-level management experience is required. 15 years of progressively responsible HR management and people administration experience in a legal or professional service industry is desired.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Human Resource Management, or a closely related field is required.
  • Understands progressive human resources/legal talent and people strategies, policies, and processes. Is passionate about the role human resources plays in supporting growth, expansion, and the development of a strong, positive, and empowering professional culture.
  • The ideal candidate will have a track record of success as a senior leader within a multi-national professional services firm.
