Responsibilities & Qualifications

Novelis – Guthrie, KY is seeking an experienced Environmental Engineer to join our new, expanding facility in Guthrie, KY. The Environmental Engineer is primarily accountable for all aspects of environmental management at our aluminum Recycling operations.

The Environmental Engineer holds the primary supporting role for the plant, performing the considerable detailed work required to develop and manage the ISO14001 Environmental Management System (EMS). The incumbent will be responsible for preparing, submitting, and recording environmental reports to corporate, local, state, and federal agencies and working with consultants on various environmental issues that may arise.

Additionally, the incumbent will be involved in the operations philosophies, culture, and team concepts related to the facility's management, particularly control plan development and environmental programmatic aspects and implementation.

The incumbent must keep abreast of constantly changing environmental, health, and safety regulations to ensure plant compliance and achieve acceptable standards. This position will work closely with the EHS Leader and Staff to ensure uniform policy and practice application.

Responsibilities:

• Manage and continuously improve all environmental compliance and sustainability aspects at the Guthrie facility.
• Align Guthrie environmental programs and efforts with Novelis, Inc. performance standards.
• Primary representative for the site’s ISO 14001 environmental management system
• Strategic planning to drive continual improvement and set the site environmental program direction.
• Provide environmental support for capital and expense projects, including regulatory permitting.
• Development and submittal of environmental reports and permits to governmental agencies.
• Liaison to Federal and State (KY) environmental agencies
• Provide guidance and technical support for onsite pollution prevention measures.
• Lead and manage environmental projects related to solid waste, air, wastewater, spill prevention, and sustainability.
• Maintain knowledge, stay current on environmental regulations, and determine impacts on on-site operations.
• Champion training and development needs to support environmental compliance programs throughout the facility.
• Promote EHS policies, implement the EHS management systems, and ensure continual improvement of EHS performance in day-to-day operations.

 Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering or science
• 5 - 10 years experience in a similar role at a manufacturing facility or comprehensive environmental compliance support of industrial facilities
• Demonstrated experience with Title V, RCRA, NPDES, and Spill Prevention Compliance
• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written); ability to communicate with all levels within the organization.
• Proficient PC skills, including Microsoft Office applications. Ability to learn new software programs quickly
• Must be flexible and able to operate in a fast-paced and demanding environment. Ability to be on call or work off hours as needed.
• Demonstrates ability to work independently with attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Superior analytical/problem-solving, written, and verbal communication.
• Experience working with local regulatory agencies preferred.

Location Profile

Novelis’ Guthrie facility is located in Guthrie Kentucky approximately 30 minutes from the Tennessee state line near Clarksville Tennessee and Hopkinsville Kentucky. As Novelis’ newest facility Guthrie will house a heat treatment and pretreatment line that will serve the North American automotive market and employ 125 residents. In addition to hunting fishing and hiking residents enjoy the Guthrie Transportation Museum which is the hub of the city’s renewal efforts.
