What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cost Accountant position at Novipax?
This role will support the plants in month-end close activities, and advanced and detailed analysis and reporting surrounding inventory, labor, and plant spend. In this role, the Plant Cost Accountant will partner with operational, engineering, and finance personnel to find and implement cost reduction opportunities and provide business leadership with cost analysis in support of business decisions.
This role is vital in ensuring that our cost structure remains competitive while supporting profitability and growth. The ideal candidate will have experience in cost accounting, budgeting, and process optimization in a manufacturing environment, or other relevant industry.
RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:
- Represent Novipax values and deliver excellent service through each interaction
- Review and update standard cost system including the updating of rates and throughputs
- Collect and analyze operational cost data, including material, labor and overhead variances and plant cost and spending trends
- Detailed tracking and analysis of both cycle counting and routine physical inventory count process, reconciliation of the results and reporting to plant and executive leadership teams
- Prepare margin analysis and variance reports (product, customer, product group) and provide insight to plant and executive leadership teams regarding product line, customer profitability (both new and existing), volume and mix impacts on the business
- Partnership with Operations and other functions in understanding and driving improvements in production costs and inventory
- Prepare budgets and forecasts for product costs and inventory and provide variance analysis to those budgets
- Assist with product pricing process
- Maintain KPI’s to track progress to established operating targets
- Partner with R&D to roll BOM costs as necessary
- Support and validate results for all productivity/cost savings projects
- Assist with sales forecast and SIOP planning
- Standard cost absorption testing
- Capital request management and asset tracking and summarization
- Perform account reconciliations
Preferred Experience and Competencies:
- Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited four-year college or university in Accounting or related field and 2 years’ of professional accounting experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Solid understanding of inventory controls, cost and accrual accounting, profit & loss statement analysis, and overall accounting principles.
- Proven ability to use Excel on a daily basis including manipulation of large amounts of data and creation of simple formulas.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite and ERP systems; IQMS ERP experience preferred.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Desire and ability to fully research issues and solve problems.
- May be required to travel to assist at other plant locations (no more than 10%).
