Position Summary
314 Action is looking for a Communications Manager who will be a part of a high-energy, fast-paced team responsible for crafting, shaping, and placing stories in media outlets. The Communications Manager will work with the National Communications Director to ensure 314 Action’s organizational goals are met and candidates are prepared for all speaking and media engagements. In this position, the Communications Manager will work alongside communication staff, other staff in a variety of day-to-day PR and media efforts, with a focus on 314 Action’s endorsed federal and statewide candidates and advancing 314 Action’s status as a premier nationally-focused political organization.
Responsibilities Include

• Work closely with the Communications Director to develop and execute a communications plan and strategy
• Monitor breaking news and identify opportunities to accomplish the organization’s messaging objectives
• Responsible for preparing materials for media relations and press conferences, including press releases and media advisories
• Supports rapid response and crisis communication
• Works well under pressure and in a deadline driven environment
• Extremely organized and able to handle media inquiries
• Craft press releases, talking points, and other communication materials as needed
• Coordinate digital strategies to enhance online presence
• Regularly evaluate the effectiveness of communication initiatives and make data-driven adjustments

Preferred Qualifications

• Preferred minimum of 2-3 years experience in communications, media relations and other related experience.
• Works well under pressure and in a deadline driven environment
• Detail oriented and highly organized
• Project management skills: ability to multitask, problem-solve, prioritize, delegate, and to create systems and processes
• Excellent communication skills
• Exceptional writing and verbal communication skills, including experience crafting persuasive messages; able to communicate effectively and persuasively to external stakeholders
• Experience in earned media, working with reporters, and generating press
• Proficient in digital communication platforms and social media
• Strategic thinker with excellent problem-solving skills
• Excellent research skills;
• Experience with online communications and research tools;
• Previous on the record experience a plus

Since its inception in 2016, 314 has quickly become a leader nationally with its unique focus on candidate recruitment and early stage candidate support. In 2020, we helped flip U.S. Senate seats in Arizona and Colorado by drafting Capt. Mark Kelly and former Gov. John Hickenlooper to successfully run for office. In total over 256 of our endorsed STEM candidates won their elections at all levels of the ballot in 2022, including 71 non-incumbents. We funded over $6 million towards our endorsed STEM candidates campaigns across 46 states at all levels of the ballot from school board to US Senate. 74% of our 2022 endorsed STEM candidates identify as women, people of color or LGBTQ .
