NRHA aims to create and apply meaningful housing and neighborhood development programs to serve all residents of Norfolk.NRHA looks for people who want to work in a challenging and progressive environment and make a positive difference in the community.About the Position NRHA seeks qualified candidates for the position of Principal Heating and Plumbing Supervisor. The job holder administers and coordinates the heating, plumbing, HVAC, and appliance operations for the Norfolk public housing communities and NRHA-managed properties. The job holder supervises a staff of eight positions in the heating, plumbing, and HVAC trades. The job holder themselves performs hands-on maintenance, repairs, replacements, and inspections of boiler plant heating systems, and oversees the repair and replacement of water piping. The jobholder responds to emergency boiler system problem calls, and performs standard shop administration duties, such as preparing standard shop budgets and maintaining inventory.Key responsibilities of this position include: Administering and coordinating assigned heating and plumbing shop operations.Supervising subordinate heating, plumbing, and HVAC staff.Maintaining, repairing, replacing, and inspecting boiler plat heating systems at assigned public housing communities and NRHA-managed properties.On-site direction of staff and contractors on heating and plumbing projects, such as replacing water pipelines.Responding to emergency boiler system repair calls.Supervising and training lesser-skilled staff in performing boiler system installations, maintenance, and repairs.Performing sidewalk, driveway, and related concrete repairs and installations as directed.Works on assigned special projects related to heating, plumbing, and HVAC matters.Applies for and secures mechanical and plumbing permits from the City of Norfolk.Assists in the development and submission of the shop budget.Performs routine shop management activities, such as maintaining inventory and submitting standard documents.The ideal candidate for this job will have: A High School diploma or General Education Development (GED) certificate.Vocational/technical school training in boiler plant heating system maintenance, general heating systems, and plumbing systems.Seven to ten years of boiler plant and related system operation and maintenance.Certification as a mater plumber, master mechanic, or master ggas fitter.A valid and current driver's license and satisfactory driving record.Personal heating and plumbing hand tools.The ability to lift 30 to 60 pound objects, alone or with assistance. NRHA will consider equivalent substitutes for education and/or experience, provided that the candidate can demonstrate that he/she has obtained the knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the job.NRHA offers a competitive compensation and benefits package. The current salary range for the Principal Heating and Plumbing Supervisor is from a minimum of $41,600.00 to a maximum of $72,467.20. The compensation offer will be determined by the candidate's work history and skill set. Benefits include retirement, health, dental, vision, life insurance, and tuition reimbursement, Public Service Loan Forgiveness, and more. NRHA offers a total of $5,000 in bonus payments to new hires in this position. A 180-day employment period is required to qualify for the full bonus amount.
