The Nueces Center for MentalHealth and Intellectual Disabilities (MHID) is dedicated to helping theresidents of Nueces County who are living with mental illness and/orintellectual and developmental disabilities. We serve over 10,000 people eachyear with psychiatric and behavioral health care outpatient services,counseling, training, employment assistance, housing support, homelessoutreach, children's mental health care and more.

Hourly Rate: $21.05

Full-Time, 40 Hour Work Week, Paid Bi-weekly

General Description

Under the supervision of theDirector for Intake Services, provides screening and assessments to determineeligibility for intakes and admission to adult mental health services.Completes intake including the biopsychosocial, diagnostic impression and ANSA.Consults and communicates with Intake Supervisor or other available LPHA in theclinical setting. Crisis assessments/interventions are completed as needed in atimely manner. Responsible for linkage to internal and external providers basedon individuals needs with focus on discharge to the least restrictiveenvironment. This position provides authorization for treatment throughdiagnostic evaluation, needs and strengths assessment and other clinicalassessments to determine the lowest restrike level of care. Certified or willobtain certification in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy through DSHS requiredinstruction and supervision. This position offers CBT to individuals who meetthe state's level of care criteria. Facilitate groups as needed and provide anyother tasks as needed and/or assigned. Intern completes the diagnosticevaluation for authorization and signature of the Intake Supervisor (LPHA).

Minimum Qualifications

Master'sDegree from accredited college or university with major in counseling,psychology, social work, or other field related to human behavior.Must be licensed as a Licensed Professional Counselor - Associate; LicensedClinical Social Worker - Intern, or Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist -Associate by the State of Texas within 1 year of completing the internship tobe fully licensed. 

Musthave at least two years' experience working with adults in mental health.Experience in social and rehabilitative work. Must have reliabletransportation. May use personal vehicle to conduct business. Must have a validdriver's license at all times, liability insurance and a good driving record.

Preferred:Bilingual (English/Spanish). Certified in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and/orCognitive Processing Therapy. Have knowledge of the principles and practices ofclinical supervision, management and of local, state and federal lawsand regulations relevant to the program area. Good computer skills - ability toenter information into electronic medical record and use of Microsoft Officeproducts.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge ofmental illness, psychotropic medications, their uses and typical sideeffects. 
  • Knowledge of mental Health Code and community resources.
  • Ability towork cooperatively with a variety of professionals and non-professionals. 
  • Knowledge ofassessment techniques and documentation requirements.
  • Ability toprepare concise reports and communicate effectively.
  • Knowledge ofpsychiatric diagnoses, psychological assessment and treatmentplanning.
  • Knowledge ofindividual's with mental illness. Good counseling skills. Computer literacy.
  • In the course of beingemployed, understands and implements trauma informed care practices.
