The Nueces Center for Mental Health and Intellectual Disabilities (MHID) is dedicated to helping the residents of Nueces County who are living with mental illness and/or intellectual and developmental disabilities. We serve over 10,000 people each year with psychiatric and behavioral health care outpatient services, counseling, training, employment assistance, housing support, homeless outreach, children's mental health care and more.

Salary: $43,793.47

Full-Time, 40 Hour Work Week, Paid Bi-weekly

General Description

Under the supervision of theIntake Program Supervisor, the roles involve conducting screenings andassessments to determine eligibility for intakes and admission to adult mentalhealth services. Responsibilities include completing intake procedures and conductingdiagnostic evaluations for authorization under the supervision of the IntakeProgram Supervisor and/or other available Licensed Practitioners of the HealingArts (LPHA). Crisis assessments and interventions are carried out promptly whennecessary. The position facilitates linkage to both internal and externalproviders based on individuals' needs, with a focus on discharging individualsto the least restrictive environment possible.

Certification in CognitiveBehavioral Therapy (CBT) through DSHS could be obtained. This position canoffer CBT to individuals meeting the state's level of care criteria, as well asfacilitating groups, as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum requirements:

  • Master's degree obtained from anaccredited college or university, with a major in counseling, psychology,social work, or a related field connected to human behavior.
  • Must hold a valid license aseither a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPC-A), Licensed ClinicalSocial Worker Intern (LCSW-I), or Licensed Marriage & Family TherapistAssociate (LMFT-A). This licensure must be continuously maintained and remainin good standing throughout the duration of employment.
  • Minimum of one year's experienceworking with individuals dealing with severe mental illness(es).
  • Proficiency in social andrehabilitative work.
  • A valid Texas Driver's License anda clean driving record.

Preferred requirements:

  • Bilingual proficiency in bothEnglish and Spanish.
  • Minimum of one year's experienceworking with individuals dealing with severe mental illness(es).
  • Certified inCognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and/or Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT).
  • Have knowledge ofthe principles and practices of clinical supervision, management, and of local,state, and federal laws and regulations relevant to the program area.
  • Strong computer skills, including the ability to inputdata into electronic medical records systems and proficiency in using MicrosoftOffice products.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of mental illness.
  • Knowledge of psychotropic medications including their uses and typical side effects.
  • Understands and implements trauma-informed care practices.
  • Demonstration of the clinical competencies required by agency-approved, standardized training(s).
  • Knowledge of assessment techniques, tools, and documentation requirements.
  • Knowledge of psychiatric diagnoses, psychological assessments, and treatment planning.
  • Strong counseling skills.
  • Knowledge of community resources.
  • Computer literacy
  • Ability to participate as a team player.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with a variety of professionals and non-professionals.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally.
