This non-exempt position pays $12.00 per hour and allows for a maximum of twenty hours of work per week. Work hours are flexible within our business hours of 8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday, to accommodate classes and other activities.
Position SummaryThis internship is a professional development experience for a student who wishes to gain professional skills and experience in electrical utility engineering. The work will be heavily weighted to engineering activities combined with some other business activities.
Primary ResponsibilitiesAll duties as assigned within the parameters of all applicable federal, state, and local labor and safety laws and/or regulations. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Become familiar with the innerworkings of electrical utility engineering and the basis within an electric cooperative
  • Generate reports based on various data
  • May support working on special engineering projects or activities
  • May support operations department with special projects or activities
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned
Minimum RequirementsMust be available to work a maximum of 20 hours per week as assigned. Must possess strong communication skills in all areas- written, verbal, graphics. Ability to collect, read and analyze statistical data, and interpret general industry and business procedures. Ability to write messaging (in all formats) for cooperative, to include internal communications and business correspondence. Ability to work with statistics and data, calculate figures and amounts. Ability to apply concepts of statistics for surveying. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Internet software; spreadsheet software; word processing software and be able to learn to apply other web-based and software applications that enhance human resources. Valid Texas Class C Driver's License.
Preferred RequirementsExperience with database and spreadsheets.

Founded in 1938, today NEC serves over 19,000 electric meters for consumers in eight South Texas counties surrounding the beautiful Texas Gulf Coast. Nueces Electric Cooperative is a proactive cooperative who is paving ways in the cooperative industry. In 2005, Nueces Electric Cooperative became the first electric cooperative to voluntarily deregulate. We are the only deregulated electric Co-op in Texas and only one of a handful in the United States. NEC leadership started the conversation in 1999, and NEC membership voted to open to the electric choice market in 2000. In 2005, parent company, Nueces Electric Cooperative, officially introduced NEC Retail, the Co-op's competitive retail subsidiary. Today, NEC Retail serves the retail electric needs of over 32,000 consumers across Texas.
