Job Title: Account Clerk
Employment Type: Full Time

Work Hours: 37.5 hrs./week
Work site: 100% Onsite

Location: HFM BOCES, 2755 State Highway 67, Johnstown, NY 12095
Closing: 01/12/2024.

Minimum Education and Work Experience:
  • Graduation from high school, possession of a high school equivalency diploma, or a high school individual education plan diploma,
AND
  1. Completion of 30 credit hours at a New York State registered or regionally accredited college or university which must have included a minimum of six credit hours in accounting or bookkeeping OR
  2. One year of experience maintaining financial accounts and records, OR
  3. An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (a) and (b) above.
Job Duties:
The incumbent will be responsible for performing standard account-keeping practices, maintaining, and checking financial accounts and records. Duties include:
  • Reviewing documents such as claim forms, vouchers, bills, and purchase orders to determine eligibility for payment or verify accuracy.
  • Verifying calculations and codes on documents.
  • Posting figures to appropriate accounts manually or through a computer, ensuring data accuracy.
  • Reconciling entries, both debits and credits.
  • Preparing simple financial or statistical reports from entered data.
  • Compiling payroll data, preparing and checking payrolls.
  • Producing data needed for State and Federal reimbursement claims.
  • Typing various forms, letters, transcripts, invoices, vouchers, and records.
  • Handling cash payments, issuing receipts, preparing checks for disbursement, and reconciling balances.
  • Making bank deposits if required.
  • Contacting clients, vendors, etc., to obtain additional information.
  • Providing routine information orally or in writing in response to inquiries or financial records.
  • Filing and maintaining all related records, including those related to processing payrolls, invoices, vouchers, bills, and correspondence.
  • Receiving, balancing, and auditing simple payroll time records.
  • Processing data for computer or other records.
  • Making computations as necessary.
  • Operating calculator, computer terminal, personal computer, and other related office equipment.
  • Answering telephone, taking messages, providing information, or making appropriate referrals.
Preferred Skills:
  • Working knowledge of modern methods of keeping and reviewing financial accounts and records, including financial software.
  • Familiarity with office terminology, procedures, and equipment.
  • Competence in business English.
  • Proficiency in alphanumeric keyboarding.
  • Skill in operating a keyboard.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Rapid and accurate arithmetical computation skills.
  • Proficiency in operating a personal computer and utilizing common office software programs, including word processing, spreadsheet, or databases.
  • Ability to write legibly.

  • Shift Days/Time: Mon-Fri 8:00 am-3:30 pm.
