NUTRITION SERVICES is Hiring an Appliance Technician - NUTRITION SERVICES Near Texas, TX

REPORTS TO: Appliance Foreman

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Repair and maintain nutrition services equipment and appliances to ensure efficient and safe operation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

  1. High school diploma or GED equivalent
  2. Hold a valid Texas driver’s license with an acceptable driving record as established by the district.
  3. Universal Environmental Protection Agency Certification.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  1. Working knowledge of refrigeration (ice machines, reach-ins, walk-ins), cooking equipment (ovens, steamers, steam wells, warmers), and dish machines.
  2. Knowledge of chlorofluorocarbons (CFC) recovery.
  3. Knowledge of current codes and ordinances involving refrigeration systems.
  4. Basic electrical knowledge (working with 110 to 480 volt 3 phase).
  5. Basic plumbing knowledge.
  6. Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and written reference material.
  7. Ability to read, comprehend, and edit specifications and prints for construction.
  8. Ability to diagnose and resolve problems.
  9. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  10. Ability to speak, read, and understand English.

EXPERIENCE: 

Five years experience in appliance repair preferred.

Major Responsibilities and Duties: 

  1. Maintain and repair nutrition services equipment and appliances.
  2. Establish preventative maintenance schedules and perform work accordingly.
  3. Diagnose and resolve problems in equipment using testing instruments and equipment.
  4. Repair or recommend replacement of appliances, including commercial ovens, ranges, steam tables, washers, dryers, refrigeration, etc.
  5. Construct, modify, and install appliances and equipment.
  6. Receive and complete work orders in a timely manner.
  7. Select replacement parts and make time and materials estimates.
  8. Maintain accurate records on material and labor used.
  9. Maintain inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, and materials.
  10. Assist with the development of specifications and selection of new or replacement equipment and appliances.
  11. Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean.
  12. Detect needed repairs on equipment following established inspection procedures.
  13. Respond to after-hour emergencies as needed and when on call.
  14. Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
  15. Ensure that vehicle, equipment, and tools are in safe operating condition and perform preventative maintenance.
  16. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.

260 days

SALARY/PAYGRADE:

$24.71/NS9

Salary (based on verifiable job-related experience) as set by the Board of Trustees 

Equipment Used:
Hand and power tools, testing instruments and equipment, light truck or van.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: 

Standing; walking; carrying, pushing/pulling, and lifting over 75 pounds. Occasional exposure to temperature extremes and noise. Occasional irregular and prolonged hours. Drive district vehicle.
