This position requires a candidate with strong leadership skills, and technical expertise in executing and managing the mechanical design of complex projects in the pharmaceutical and laboratory facility design field, with strong clean room design experience. The ability to balance technical proficiency with project management skills is crucial for success in this role.

Supervision received is essentially administrative. With assignments given in terms of broad general objective and limits. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will mentor more junior engineers and designers and work closely with the Group Leader(s) to ensure that company goals and guidelines are maintained.The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 years of experience designing and managing projects independently,

Experience in the design of Cell and Gene and Biotherapy facilities are a plus.

PE is required.

Responsibilities

Essential duties & responsibilities include but are not limited to one or more of the following:

  • In a supervisory capacity, a) plans, develops, coordinates, and directs several large and important projects or a project of major scope and importance, or b) is responsible for the entire engineering program of an organization when the program is of limited complexity and scope.
  • Project Leadership:
    • Lead and execute projects of various types and sizes.
    • Provide technical leadership throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Team Management:
    • Manage junior engineers and designers on projects.
    • Ensure the successful completion of projects by guiding and supervising team members.
  • Project Management:
    • Maintain schedules, ensuring projects are completed on time.
    • Manage budgets effectively to ensure financial targets are met.
    • Ensure the scope of the projects is clearly defined and adhered to.
  • Quality and Compliance:
    • Apply cGMP standards to all aspects of project design and execution.
    • Ensure that all projects meet regulatory and compliance requirements.
  • Communication:
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, clients, and stakeholders.

Provide regular updates on project progress, milestones, and challenges.

  • Directs or assists with the preparation of proposals in a timely manner and submits to the client.
  • Directs or assists with client presentations.
  • Responsible for client management plans to develop and retain clients.
  • Assists in the development of and supports business development initiatives to attract future projects from new clients.
  • Maintain familiarity with current industry standards, trends, and technologies, including ISPE and cGMP standards.
  • Maintains knowledge of current and applicable building codes
  • Has a general knowledge of all disciplines so that potential issues can be identified and addressed.
  • Works with minimal direction or supervision through demonstrated success with similar project responsibilities.
  • Other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Graduate from an engineering curriculum accredited by the Accreditation for Engineering and Technology (A.E.T.) or from a non-accredited engineering curriculum or related engineering science or with a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum of ten (10) years' experience designing and managing projects independently and has a thorough understanding of the principles of the discipline he/she is designing.
  • Must have a general understanding of design and commissioning project requirements.
  • PE License required.
  • Must have experience in generating studies and reports at all project stages for all project types.
  • Must be able to travel to worksites as needed or required. May require overnight and air travel.
  • Must have the ability to cultivate effective relationships with clients and vendors.
  • Must demonstrate an ability to identify, assess and nurture business development opportunities.
  • Must keep current through continuing education.
  • Must be knowledgeable in the operation of a computer, AutoCAD, Revit, and BIM 360
  • Must have a professional demeanor and excellent presentation skills.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills and ability to positively interact with staff at every level of the organization.
  • Must be able to commit to a hybrid work schedule with at least 3 days in the Cary, NC office.
  • Professional Activities:
  • Must be at least a member and on a committee of one (1) trade specific organization (ASHRAE, ISPE, AIA, etc.).

Physical Requirements:

  • This is a full-time position (40 hours per week, Monday – Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm), with the ability to work on-call and extended hours (including after hours, holidays and weekends). The job is performed primarily in an indoor office environment with occasional driving to commercial and institutional job site locations and outdoor activities at the site (including mechanical rooms, rooftops, and buildings). The employee must be able to perform, in a safe manner at all times, the following essential functions and requirements:
  • The employee frequently sits or stands in the same location with opportunity to move about; occasionally walks substantial distances at job site locations; regularly thinks, concentrates, analyzes, interprets, interacts with others, and communicates orally and in writing; regularly uses a computer (keyboard and mouse); regularly reads, sees, hears, and speaks; frequently uses hands to write, type, handle, or feel; occasionally reaches with hands and arms; occasionally bends, stoops, and lifts or moves up to 30 pounds (and greater weights infrequently); occasionally climbs ladders and stairs.
