Position: Billing Specialist

Reports to: Tracy Pullman

Job Classification: Non-Exempt, Hourly, Regular Full-Time

Typical Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 to 5:00

Pay range: $20.50 to $26.00 per hour.

General Position Summary: Posting patient and insurance payments, submitting insurance claims, working denials, insurance aging, requesting insurance authorizations, checking insurance eligibility, answering phones, credentialling.

Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Answering the phone and helping patients with billing questions
• Checking the patient’s insurance for eligibility
• Requesting referrals and authorizations as needed
• Working on insurance aging and denied claims.
• Posting payments to patient accounts
• Credentialing new providers as assigned
• Other duties as assigned by your supervisor.

Knowledge and Skills:

• Candidates must have an excellent understanding of insurance billing.
• Ability to operate a computer and basic office equipment.
• Knowledge of computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Skill in answering a telephone in a pleasant and helpful manner.
• Ability to work well in an environment with firm deadlines.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team and maintain a positive attitude.
• Must be well organized and detail oriented.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients and staff.
• Must have a strong understanding and working knowledge of the appeals and denial process.

Environmental/Working Conditions:

• Must be flexible in work hours, hours may be changed based on clinic needs.
• Must be able to sit for long periods of time.
• Must be able to sit in front of a computer screen for at least 8 hours a day.
• May be required to lift at least 40 pounds.
