NYC Administration for Children's Services is Hiring a Deputy Communications Director Near New York, NY

THE SELECTED CANDIDATE WILL BE OFFERED A SALARY BETWEEN $135,000 - $145,000.
The Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) protects and promotes the safety and well-being of children and families through child welfare and juvenile justice services and community supports. ACS manages community-based supports and foster care services, and provides subsidized child care vouchers. ACS child protection staff respond to allegations of child maltreatment. In juvenile justice, ACS oversees detention, placement and programs for youth in the community.
The Office of the Deputy Mayor for Operations works to advance the City’s efforts to address policy matters across the five boroughs, coordinate operational efforts across the City’s public agencies, improve access to services for all New Yorkers, and ensure agency operations are effective and coordinated. The Deputy Mayor for Operations oversees 8 city agencies and 1 mayoral office: the Departments of Transportation, Environmental Protection, Sanitation, Buildings, and Design & Construction, the School Construction Authority, the Taxi and Limousine Commission, and the Mayor’s Office of Climate and Environmental Protection, as well as several citywide taskforces.
The Deputy Communications Director is a senior member of the larger Mayor’s Office of Communications, responsible for communicating the Administration’s vision, mission, and policies to New Yorkers and a broader online audience. In this role, which reports to the Director of Communications, s/he oversees strategic communications plans for the Deputy Mayor of Operations and is charged with implementing that vision.
Primary Responsibilities Include
  • Manage strategic communications for the Deputy Mayor for Operations’ portfolio of agencies which focuses on infrastructure, climate, and the public realm.
  • Serve as the event lead for Mayoral announcements, as well as announcements made by the Deputy Mayor.
  • Support the Deputy Mayor ahead of major events, including keynote speeches and panel appearances
  • Advise agencies before City Council hearings.
  • Craft long-term communications plans on Mayoral issue areas.
  • Provide message guidance to Mayor’s Press Office and agencies.
  • Liaise and coordinate with communications leads in agencies overseen by the Deputy Mayor for Operations

Minimum Qualifications
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of responsible full-time paid experience in one or more of the fields of social service, psychology, public relations, urban planning, program evaluation, budget administration or financial administration, human resources management, management science, operations research, organizational behavior, industrial
psychology, statistics, personnel administration, labor relations, human resources development, political science, urban studies or a closely related field.
  • A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience equivalent to “1” above. However, all candidates must possess at least one year of the experience described in “1” above.
Preferred SkillsThe preferred candidate should possess the following: - 10 years related experience in public relations, journalism, or communication. - Advanced writing skills, interpersonal skills, media knowledge required. - Familiarity with local government and city agencies. - Strong understanding of current events. - Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel required. - Proficiency with electronic communications media, as well as with such social media networks as Facebook and Twitter required. - Ability and experience to balance multiple demands and deadlines.

Residency Requirement
New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
