Job Title: ACE Club/21st Century After School Teacher

Reports to: 21st Century Program Coordinator

Service days: Varies

About NYOS 

NYOS, an acronym for "Not Your Ordinary School", is an open-enrollment public charter school with 2 campuses, located in North Austin. NYOS provides a unique learning experience where all students strive for academic excellence in a close-knit community. We strive to build leaders to serve and succeed in a global society. NYOS encourages excellence through service learning, brain-based teaching, and low student-teacher ratios.

Primary Role: Support the mission, purpose and goals of the ACE after-school program and create a safe and supportive environment where students can receive academic and enrichment opportunities during out -of-school time. Ultimately, all ACE activities focus on helping at-risk students meet state academic standards, with a special emphasis on pos-secondary education.

Qualifications:

  • College Degree 
  • Experience in the Classroom teaching K- 8th grade
  • Teaching Certification required

Professional Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Use student data and the provided research-based curriculum (Amplify Burst) to plan and develop small group literacy tutorials aligned to state standards (TEKS).
  • Use the grant provided lesson plan template to record weekly lessons.
  • Monitor student data and use of Amplify Boost online supplementary program to support individualized, self-paced reading intervention.
  • Plan and develop whole group reading comprehension lessons using GenreBased Thinking Jobs to practice using textual evidence to support and defend our response to comprehension questions.
  • Regularly monitor and report student progress via formative assessments built into provided curriculum and online resources.
  • Align student supervision/teacher support with individual school goals (i.e., excellence in content areas, engaged learning, and employing techniques that meet the needs of diverse learners). 
  • Participate in staff development, training and classroom observations that model school and national best practices.
  • Transition students from meeting zone to the classroom or from the classroom to the next session.

  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding information concerning students, parents, staff, and classroom incidents.
  • Adhere to ethical and legal standards and model behavior that is professional and responsible.
  • Participate in approved professional development to improve skills related to job assignment.
  • Follow NYOS standard procedures for communication, interaction, and discipline as outlined in the NYOS Staff Handbook.

Work Environment: This job operates in a school environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. 

Physical Demands: This position is very active and involves standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and move items up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
