Job Title: Elementary Educational Assistant for Special Education

Primary Role:
This position is for an Elementary Educational Assistant for Special Education.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED, required
- Three creditable years of experience as an Educational Aide or 30 hours of college credit, preferred
- Must have or be willing to obtain an Educational Aide III Texas Certification
- Experience working in a classroom and/or working with children
- Ability to provide instruction and manage student behavior
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to adjust and adapt to the many and varied situations in the school environment
Professional Responsibilities and Duties:
- Assist in the educational development of students under the direction and guidance of the Special Education teachers
- Actively participate in the lesson planning and delivery including set up, clean up for daily lessons; preparing gym and/or outdoor spaces for instruction
- Monitor students in a variety of educational environments (e.g. classroom, cafeteria, playground, school grounds, hallways, restrooms, study trips, small groups, large groups, Field Day, etc..) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment
- Implement and maintain effective classroom management to ensure continual progress, safety, and emotional well-being of students
- Utilize efficient, accurate record keeping procedures
- Communicate and confer effectively both orally and in written form with students, parents, colleagues and administration
- Work collaboratively with colleagues including General Education and Special Education staff and Administration in support of student achievement goals and professional development
- Provide support with administration of standardized achievement and/or ability tests as required
- Participate in routine check-ins with Special Education teachers, team meetings, before and after school duties, lunch duty, and school-wide meetings and events as required
- Perform other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit
- Enforce NYOS Charter School rules and policies
- Actively participate in a variety of meetings and professional development activities for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions and to improve student achievement.
- Use audiovisual aids, computers, and or other interactive technology to supplement and support lessons
- Demonstrate strong work ethic, accept responsibility, and the ability to be self-motivated
- Exemplify through manner, words, and dress the high standards and expected behavior of the school
- Perform other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit
- Assist in maintaining a learning environment that is structured, organized, and routine-oriented with a variety of instructional formats.
- Assist with a variety of assessments that measure progress towards learning outcomes and behaviors that are needed to be successful in the general education environment.
- Assist in communication efforts with staff and families as necessary
- Maintain confidentiality with student records and ensure that information regarding students is shared at appropriate times.
- Facilitate interactions between students and staff and students and their peers.

- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding information concerning students, parents, staff, and classroom incidents
- Adhere to ethical and legal standards and model behavior that is professional and responsible
- Participate in approved professional development to improve skills related to job assignment
- Follow NYOS standard procedures for communication, interaction, and discipline as outlined in the NYOS Staff Handbook

- May be exposed to outdoor weather conditions during portions of the work day.
- Need to move about inside the classroom or campus to monitor students as necessary.

- Frequent moving of small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
- Occasional requirement lifting up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to understand complex problems and to collaborate and explore alternative solutions.
- Maintain composure and professionalism at all times.
Compensation and Benefits:
The starting Educational Assistant salary for 0 years of experience is $26,066 per year or $17.15 per hour. This role may be eligible for stipends based on assignments which may vary between $500-$1,000. For more information about our compensation, visit our compensation and benefits page.
