Oceanside Unified School District is Hiring a School Secretary Near Oceanside, CA

The Personnel Commission announces an OPEN and PROMOTIONAL recruitment. This recruitment will result in the establishment of one integrated eligibility list. Promotional candidates will have seniority points added to final passing scores (.25 of a point for every year of classified service up to a maximum of 5 points). This list will be used to fill current and future vacancies and will be active for one year or until cancelled. There is currently ONE position open at Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School. This is an 8 hour/day, 10 month position. Under the supervision of an assigned administrator, perform and coordinate varied and responsible secretarial and clerical services in a school office; organize office activities and coordinate flow of communications and work; and assure smooth and efficient office operations. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS Positions in this class are assigned clerical and secretarial services which require a working knowledge of subject matter and the functions of the school office in which they work. Incumbents exercise initiative and independent judgment within a number of standardized procedures. Any combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to the graduation from high school or equivalent supplemented coursework in business, office management or related field and two years of responsible clerical or secretarial work involving considerable contact with the public.Requirements / Qualifications
Knowledge of Correct English usage, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and composition. Modern office practices, procedures, and equipment. Terminology, processes, and operations of assigned office or program. Operation of a computer and assigned software. Financial and statistical record-keeping and reporting. Telephone techniques and etiquette. Research methods and report preparation techniques. Applicable laws, codes, rules, and regulations. Oral and written communication skills. Basic budgeting practices regarding monitoring and control. District organization, operations, policies, and objectives. Principles of training and providing work direction to others. Basic public relations techniques. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
Ability To Perform a Variety Of Clerical And Secretarial Work To Relieve The Administrator Of Administrative And Clerical Detail. Assure Efficient And Timely Completion Of Office And Program Projects And Activities. Operate a Variety Of Office Equipment Including a Computer And Assigned Software And Applications. Make Arithmetical Calculations With Accuracy And Speed. Establish And Maintain Complex Filing Systems And Financial And Statistical Records. Prepare Complex And Accurate Reports. Compose Correspondence And Written Materials Independently Or From Oral Instructions. Understand And Resolve Issues, Complaints, Or Problems. Interpret, Apply, Read, Understand, And Explain Laws, Rules, Regulations, Policies, Procedures, And Material. Work Independently With Little Direction. Prioritize And Schedule Work. Compose And Verify Data And Prepare Reports. May Train And Provide Work Direction To Others. Establish And Maintain Cooperative And Effective Relationships With Others. Meet The Public In Situations Requiring Tact, Diplomacy, And Discretion. Understand And Carry Out Oral And Written Instructions. Communicate Effectively Both Orally And In Writing.
