Job Summary: 

The Hotside Manager provides direct oversight to the Octopi Hotside team. The Hotside Manager reports directly to the Brewing Manager/Brewmaster. This role is highly collaborative and requires strong leadership and communication skills as well as extensive knowledge of brewing raw materials, brewhouse operation, wort creation and affiliated specifications, process flow, automated vessel controls and yeast management. The role is comprised of, but not limited to, the following responsibilities:

Primary Responsibilities: 

Hotside Management:

• Ensure a safe work environment for all team members.
• Provide daily oversight and direction for the brewhouse team 
• Ensures 100% documentation completion and accuracy.
• Provide any needed direction for schedule changes or special circumstances.
• Maintain a detailed shift schedule for all team members.
• Outlines 1st, 2nd and 3rd shift and supervisor responsibilities.
• Ensures timely and efficient task completion.
• Provide leadership to the hotside team through work and attitude.
• Coach and develop all team members to build their skill levels and abilities.
• Maintains a positive, solution-oriented culture. 
• Is an acting conduit for 360° company, personnel, news and schedule communications
• Drive’s engagement.
• Is an advocate of both the team and Octopi’s mission and objectives.
• Maintain, provide direction and utilize the Brewing Career Matrix, with the consultation of the Brewing Manager and Brewing Director.
• Conduct bi-annual performance reviews and regular check-ins.
• Tailor a training matrix for all new team members.
• Trains or designates a trainer for all brewers.
• Provide or plans 24/7 support and shift coverage as needed.
• Weekly and monthly team and individual touch-points. 
• Manages and reviews timecards, attendance points, PTO and sick-time.

Hotside Processes: 

• Ensures SOPs are created quickly for new processes and all SOPs are: 
• Up-to-date, are accurate and followed
• Align with Octopi’s SOP management system.
• Promptly communicated upon change.
• Actively work on process improvement and address concerns from team, Brewing Manager and Brewing Director and affiliated stakeholders.
• Work with directly with suppliers/OEM’s to troubleshoot issues in the plant as needed with support of Brewing Manager and Brewing Director.
• Oversee parts and supplies inventory.
• Ensure all storage spaces are clean, organized, labeled and maintained 
• Ensures proper secondary container and labeling is utilized across all related processes
• Uses available tools and analytics to drive continuous improvement in hotside operations.
• Thoroughly understands and can manage recipes, specifications and changes to meet internal and external client needs.
• Actively coordinates shut-down and PM tasks with the team while working collaboratively with maintenance to meet deadlines to preserve equipment and production.

Hotside Production: 

• Drives efficiency initiatives throughout hotside, including: 
• Cleaning and sanitation
• Organization and 5S
• Scheduled maintenance/CIP (ex: water systems, spent grain, sugar storage),
• Prep for upcoming processes 
• Process Optimization
• NCR’s and CAPA’s
• Loss tracking
• Work directly with clients on process requirements and capabilities as needed with support of Brewing Manager and Brewing Director.
• Work directly with Cellar Manager and Inventory Manager to meet scheduling needs, manage tanks and ensure yeast availability.
• Ensure first time right: Wort delivered in spec, on time.
• Swiftly troubleshoots and addresses issues for all hotside related liquid and equipment.
• Other duties as requested by the Brewing Manager

Education and Experience: 

• 3 years of people management experience.
• 5 years of brewing/cellaring/beverage production experience, 2 of which are at a production facility.
