Job Goals: The Assistant Principal (AP) supports the school in driving academic outcomes for students as a key member of the school’s administration team. To continue building a high-performing High School, OCS needs leaders to commit themselves to the most urgent and exciting work of our time! Therefore, the AP is a school leader focused on supporting teachers and instructional leaders to deliver the most rigorous and joyful academic experience for our students that leads to exceptional academic gains. The AP plays a central role in the success of the High School and works closely with the Principal, the Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment Manager, and fellow School Leaders to assess student and teacher performance and lead professional development. The AP must be a master of content, an expert in building relationships with stakeholders, and demonstrate an unwavering commitment to holding high expectations. The incumbent is considered an apprentice to the Principal and expected to build the capacity to lead a School.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Strong commitment to the mission and vision of Odyssey Charter School.
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, and an active DE License and Certification.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Google Docs and the willingness and ability to learn programs required of the position.
  • Demonstrated Leadership Skills in garnering support, motivating others to meet and surpass department and district-wide objectives, handling conflict using restorative practice techniques through a DE&I lens.
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills to deal effectively with students, staff, and all Stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to hold others accountable.
  • Knowledgeable about formative and diagnostic assessments and research based instructional practices.
  • Equity driven, demonstrated sensitivity to issues impacting various cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic groups.
  • Superior grasp of effective instructional and behavioral methods and strategies for educating urban youth including but not limited to right brained restorative practices (trauma informed practices), culturally responsive teaching, Social Emotional Learning, grading for equity and coaching for equity.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Leadership Certification preferred.
  • Master’s degree or higher preferred.
  • Previous experience as an Instructional Coach, Dean, Student Advisor or similar leader role in a K-12 environment.
  • Exceptional ability to analyze data.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities - Data Driven Instruction:

  • Conduct deep analysis of data in order to lead effective analysis meetings based on daily student work samples.
  • Build grade level/content area action plans and materials to address data.
  • Monitor grade-level progress against assessment cycle benchmarks.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities - Feedback and Teacher Development:

  • Conduct daily observations, integrate feedback into planning meetings that lead to teacher and instructional leader development, and support implementation of action steps.
  • Provide real-time feedback to teachers during instruction and contribute to teachers’ mid-year reviews.
  • Plan and deliver high-quality professional development that exceeds standards.
  • Plan and execute team meetings for grade-level or content-area staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities - Curriculum and Assessment:

  • Own organization-wide curriculum and assessment work based on content expertise such as lesson planning, assessment revisions, collaborative scoring, and/or network analysis (Grades 9-12).
  • Facilitate assessment cycles including scheduling, quality assurance of assessment materials, and teacher/student preparation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities - Mission-Alignment:

  • Demonstrate a passionate commitment to improve the minds and lives of students in and out of school.
  • Build professional relationships with teachers that support their development.
  • Collaborate with internal and external Stakeholders (HOS, Principals, CIA Manager, Deans, Manager of Student Services, Dean of Hellenic and Classical Education, Counselors, School Psychologists, and other staff) to maximize the ability of the School to support students’ academic and socio-emotional development.
