Position: TEACHER
Qualifications
RESPONSIBILITY: He/She is responsible for the students assigned to him/her. Teaches the students assigned to them using the curricular resources approved by the school board and/or school Administrator.
JOB GOAL: To provide students academic, social, and motor skills. Plans, directs, and evaluates learning experiences for the students in conformity with school district policy, mission and school building goals.
Performance Responsibilities
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated by the assigned Building Principal.
CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK: All employees in contact with children must submit to and pass the required criminal background check and drug test.

Qualifications
- Must be certified by the state of South Dakota
- Ability to interact effectively with parents, school district personnel, and representatives of other agencies.
- At least one year of teaching or intern experience working in a classroom environment preferred.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.

Performance Responsibilities
- Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law, administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt to the needs of each student.
- Translates lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize the available time for instruction.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning environment in the classroom.
- Evaluates students’ academic and social growth, maintains appropriate records, and prepares progress reports and/or report cards.
- Communicates with parent and guardians through conferences and other means to discuss students’ progress and interpret explains the school program.
- Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
- Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers.
- Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities.
- Selects and requisitions instructional materials and supplies and maintains required inventory records.
- Supervises students in and out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
- Administers group standardized tests in accordance with district testing policies.
- Participates in curriculum professional development programs as required.
- Participates in faculty committees.
- Other assigned duties by supervisor.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated by the assigned Building Principal.
