What You'll DoServes as institution Medical Director and a member of Leadership Staff. Provides, plans, co-ordinates and directs Health Care Services at Southwest Ohio Developmental Center to include maximum efficiency of operation and quality of services by maintaining &/or improving delivery of medical services to residents; prescribes medication, maintains compliance with federal and state laws and rules as well as Medicaid standards for participation in ICF/MR program. Participates as team member in planning individuals care plan. Communicates w/ family members regarding health care needs of individuals served. Provides medical and administrative advice and support to the Superintendent and Nurse Director; provides input for budget; determines plan of action when conditions indicate a communicable disease investigation is needed. Supervises and directs the activities of contracted and civil service staff (i.e. Nurse Director, Contracted Dentist/Dental Hygienist, Contracted Pharmacy); recommends new hires for supervised areas; makes assignments; monitors performance and develops action plans of supervised employees.
Provides and assists medical staff with medical services; provides direct medical care for selected residents; writes medical evaluations and reports, completes and/or oversees completion of admission, discharge and death summaries for assigned residents; interprets and analyzes laboratory reports and findings; writes summary and maintains written account of client progression. Maintains admission rights with local hospitals & oversees medical care of admitted individuals. Establishes policies and procedures relative to health care services (i.e. communicable disease, infection control, hazardous waste) to ensure consistency with governing regulations (i.e. Medicaid, State Licensure) and to reflect current medical standards of practice.
Participates in coordinating Medical/Nursing Employee health issues. Participates with in-service training and education to all facility staff: participates in Medical/Nursing educational programs (e.g. Medical in-services, continuing education units, advanced medical procedures). Provides consultative services to other physicians (i.e. Ophthalmology, Gynecology, Urology, and Gastroenterology); attends and conducts staff meetings and/or case conferences; acts as liaison with Center of disease Control. Responds to phone inquires from staff. Provides support to other DC’s, ODMR/DD Medical Director and participates in State Committees as needed.
