What You'll DoThe Bureau of Environmental Health and Radiation Protection is seeking a candidate to fill our Public Health Consultant for the Agency of Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) cooperative agreement program team and work to facilitate community understanding and participation in health assessment activities at hazardous chemical sites. This position will:
conduct community health education needs assessments via site visits, meetings with affected residents, and pre-remedial surveys
assist in planning, development, implementation, and presentation of public health education plans and materials in order to help minimize community's risk of exposure to chemicals or other hazardous materials or environments
work with local communities, health departments, citizen groups, coalitions, and others to address community concerns and health risks related to hazardous chemical or material exposure
plan and moderate public meetings and one-on-one meetings with residents, develop site-specific educational materials, and provide environmental health information and education to public health officials, physicians, and other agency personnel
work with principal investigator to coordinate response to ATSDR's Safe-Siting Practices for Early Child Care Facilities initiative, working with government agencies to develop processes and procedures to prevent siting of childcare centers on properties that might pose a toxic threat to the health of children and facility staff

OR 18 mos. exp. in providing direct service &/or consultation in a public health, community health, hospital &/or clinic setting, to include exp. in program evaluation, grant review, developing & presenting training programs & in facilitating &/or working collaboratively with coalitions or groups; completion of undergraduate core coursework in public health, health care, health administration or related field; must be able to provide own transportation. OR Preferred QualificationsEquivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above. Applications of those who meet the minimum qualifications will be further evaluated against the following criteria:
Completion of graduate or advanced degree in Public Health, Environmental Health, Health Education, or closely related field of study
Experience in communicating public health topics via spoken communication with the general public (e.g., community meetings, one-on-one sessions, recorded presentations)
Experience in developing print or digital education resources for publication (e.g. factsheets, PowerPoints)
Experience in communicating public health topics with professionals (e.g. doctors, pediatricians, other public health officials)
Experience in designing and maintaining web page content
Experience in preparing technical reports and documentation
Experience in setting up and coordinating meetings (e.g., scheduling times, preparing agendas)
Experience with using social media (e.g., Facebook, Twitter) for public health education for the general public
Experience with basic computer software (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
Experience with specialized computer software for GIS mapping
