Geologist PreferredWhat we need: Environmental Specialist 2- Ground Water Specialist What We DoAt the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, our primary goal is to protect the environment and public health. We do this by ensuring compliance with federal and state environmental laws. What We Need YOU To DoThe Ohio Environmental Protection Agency wants you to be our newest environmental specialist with the Division of Drinking and Ground Water (DDAGW) at our Central Office in downtown Columbus. Looking for a new, exciting opportunity? We gotchu. As a ground water specialist, you’ll use your hydrogeologic expertise to coordinate Ohio’s statewide Ambient Ground Water Monitoring program to characterize and evaluate ground water quality for the state’s major aquifers. You’ll coordinate and conduct reviews of wastewater treatment facilities and activities and prepare reports regarding sites that may potentially discharge wastewater to ground water or within source water protection areas to ensure compliance with state regulations. You will assist statewide DDAGW staff with reviewing general hydrogeologic site investigations and assessments, ground water monitoring program plans, data and reports, ground water quality assessment plans and reports, conducting site inspections, and ground water complaint investigations. You’ll create and update technical guidance documents and educational materials as needed to represent statewide, regional, and local ground water quality conditions in support of ground water protection and management programs. Each biennium, you’ll assist in preparing the ground water quality chapter of Ohio EPA’s Integrated Water Quality Report. You’ll provide subject technical assistance and various public outreach tasks related to ground water resources and ground water pollution impacts to educate and assist public water systems, general public, local and state officials, and governmental agencies. Coordinate Ohio’s statewide Ambient Ground Water Monitoring program to evaluate ground water quality for our major aquifers.
Coordinate reviews of relevant projects for facilities potentially discharging wastewater to ground water or within source water protection areas.
Prepare the ground water quality chapter of Ohio EPA’s biennial Integrated Water Quality Report.
Create and maintain technical documents and educational materials as needed to represent statewide, regional, and local ground water quality conditions in support of protection and management programs.
Provide technical assistance, outreach, and education on ground water resources and ground water pollution impacts to the public, industry, and officials.
