The Ohio Quarter Horse Association (OQHA), founded in 1951, is dedicated to promoting the American Quarter Horse breed through premier competitions, educational programs, and community engagement. As a non-profit agricultural association, we host the All American Quarter Horse Congress, the world's largest horse show, generating over $420 million annually for the central Ohio economy. Our charitable arm, the Ohio Quarter Horse Foundation, supports scholarships, crisis relief, and animal welfare.

Role Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Staff Accountant/Treasurer to manage our accounting and financial operations. This pivotal role involves ensuring the accuracy of financial records, conducting account reconciliations, and overseeing financial transactions. You will contribute to the financial health of our organization, supporting our mission and the success of our renowned events.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accounting Management: Maintain and improve our accounting processes and procedures.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare and present monthly financial statements to the Board of Directors.
  • Reconciliation: Perform monthly reconciliations of OQHA and OQHF accounts.
  • Budget Oversight: Manage the annual budget, tax filings, and insurance activities.
  • Cash Flow Management: Oversee cash flow and banking activities.
  • Event Financials: Produce payouts and vouchers for the All American Quarter Horse Congress classes.
  • Congress Coordination: Manage payroll and coordinate the treasurer’s office during Congress.
  • Support and Review: Assist with financial activities to ensure overall success of the association.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Proficient in QuickBooks and Excel.
  • Knowledge of the equine industry and non-profit associations is preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to interact with staff, exhibitors, Board of Directors, and commercial exhibitors.
  • Capable of working independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • High integrity and confidentiality with sensitive information.
