Reporting to the Chief Information Officer for Student Life, as a member of the Student Life Technology Services Team, this position will be charged with improving data maturity within the scope of Student Life helping the organization become more disciplined in its approach to how data is collected, stored, and used and providing a modern and scalable data infrastructure. This position is also a key participant in strategic technology collaborations with Student Life stakeholders, as well as university data groups. The successful candidate will be an innovative strategic thinker with a startup mentality to drive progress in a timely manner. This position will require an open and collaborative style of leadership and management that fosters teamwork, sustains a learning environment for staff, and develops a dedicated, results-oriented, and partner focused team that continuously fosters trust.
Key Objectives:
  • Lead the Student Life Technology Services Data Team responsible for database management platforms, operations, tools, principles, policies and programs for stewardship, advocacy and custodianship of data management, integrations, services, and analytics.
  • Lead the Student Life's data strategy in partnership with key Student Life partners.
  • Ensure that data is treated as an institutional asset and is available to optimize the student experience and operational efficiency, recognizing the criticality of data in decision making.
  • Identify and standardize the use and governance of data management, integrations, services, and analytics.
  • Develop training and provide guidance for data analysts across the Student Life departments to allow them to use institutional data in support of local decision making and process optimization.
    • Lead strategic conversations through which decisions about targeted investments and strategic opportunities around data management and platforms are made.
    • Collaborate with other data leaders across the university to leverage opportunities for collaboration and efficiencies.
    • Provide direct oversight for staff development and ensure continual skill growth; ensure that staff skills are aligned with the services and initiatives they are responsible for delivering; and foster cross-functional teamwork.
Requires knowledge of principles within body of formal knowledge or in-depth knowledge across multiple work areas. Participates in the development of policies and procedures to achieve specific goals, and uses judgment, evaluation, and interpretation to help others select the right course of action. Impact is typically on medium-term (1-2 year) goals; translates goals into operational activities and guides their execution. Interacts with peers, individual contributors and stakeholders to discuss and resolve operational matters.
