We are currently looking for qualified candidates to fill a full-time Peer Recovery Support Specialist position for Hancock County, OH. Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, the OMHAS Peer Recovery Supporter Certification and a valid Ohio driver's license.
SUMMARY
The Peer Recovery Support Specialist will serve as a role model, mentor, advocate, and motivator to recovering individuals in order to help prevent relapse and promote long-term recovery. The Peer Recovery Support Specialist must demonstrate an ability to share personal recovery experiences and develop authentic peer-to-peer relationships.
This is an hourly position with hours and schedule established to complete the required duties. This position is not exempt from wage and hour regulations as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor and is therefore granted protections under the Wage and Hour Division of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/LICENSE/CERTIFICATION
Required:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • OhioMHAS Peer Recovery Supporter Certification
  • Valid driver’s license issued in the state of Ohio
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Available to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • Comply with all state and federal laws regarding protected health information.
  • Maintain project logs, reports, and records in appropriate files and database(s).
  • Provide recovery education to individuals for every phase of their recovery from pre-recovery engagement, recovery initiation, recovery stabilization, and sustained recovery maintenance.
  • Provide a model for both people in recovery and on staff by demonstrating that recovery is possible.
  • Assist individuals with identifying their personal interests, goals, strengths, and weaknesses regarding recovery.
  • Assist individuals with developing their own plan for advancing their recovery.
  • Promote self-advocacy by assisting individuals with expressing their voice, needs, goals, and objectives.
  • Actively identify and support linkages to community resources (communities of recovery, educations, vocational, social, cultural, and spiritual resources as well as mutual self-help groups, professional services, etc.) that support the individual’s goals and interests.
  • Support connections to community-based, mutual self-help groups.
  • Connect individuals with the appropriate professional resources.
  • Provide vision-driven hope and encouragement for opportunities at varying levels of involvement in community-based activities (i.e. work, school, relationship, physical activity, self-directed hobbies, etc.).
  • Identify barriers (internal and external) to full participation in community resources and develop strategies to overcome those barriers.
  • Maintain contact by phone and/or email with recovering persons after they leave the program to ensure their ongoing success and provide re-engagement support in partnership with others in the agency if needed. Long term engagement, support, and encouragement.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
  • Must satisfy relevant state requirements for Certified Peer Recovery Supporter. Being registered through OhioMHAS as a Certified Ohio Peer Recovery Supporter
  • Lived experience of a mental health and or substance use disorder.
  • Must have worked within the past three years with at least 12 months total of successful, part or full time, paid or voluntary work.
  • Have acquired, or meet the qualifications for certification as a Certified Peer Recovery Supporter.
  • Must have an understanding of and respect for each individual’s path to recovery.
  • Must have a working knowledge of the drug and alcohol treatment system and a demonstrated commitment to the recovery community.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of addiction and recovery practices.
  • Demonstrate the ability to interact with persons of diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of community resources available to persons served.
  • Demonstrate the ability to effectively function as an OhioGuidestone team member.
  • Demonstrate the ability to effectively manage multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Demonstrate the ability to customarily and regularly exercise discretion and good professional judgment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to perform job responsibilities in facilities with multiple levels and without elevator or mechanical transportation.
  • Operate a computer and keyboard.
