Job DescriptionAtkinsRéalis Transportation Project Delivery Practice (PDP) is the centre of excellence for the delivery of Major Transportation infrastructure projects and combines the best in project management and design management to provide a full suite of services to clients in the public and private sectors. The team is responsible for delivery of design services across our Strategic Rail, Strategic Highways and Local Transport Markets.
We have several exciting vacancies within the Strategic Highways and Local Transport team within PDP and are seeking to recruit experienced Project Directors to join our Project Delivery Practice based in Epsom, Birmingham or Manchester. This is an exciting opportunity for Project Directors looking to be accountable for the successful delivery of the portfolio of projects in the respective regions, whilst influencing the growth and development of the wider project management team.
This is an excellent opportunity for talented individuals who want to take the next step in their leadership career, taking overall accountability for the performance and delivery of projects from inception through to completion. You will be an established Project Director within the Highways and/or Local Transport market sector; this role offers the chance of career development and experience expansion across a wide range of challenging and exciting projects. The position is likely to combine agile working from our offices with time at client offices and sites.
Our need to recruit comes from the success of our Transportation division and our pipeline and expected growth across the United Kingdom.
The Project Directors in this team directly influence the lives of people across the UK by improving their passenger experience, making their journeys better and by making the country a greener place to live. Our transportation portfolio is growing, and we have a wide client base including HS2, Highways England, Network Rail and Local Authorities as well as several Principal Contractors.
Working with the support of the wider project management and engineering teams, you will be accountable for delivering schemes to budget and schedule and quality standards and be the main point of contact with our clients on these projects.

Responsibilities
  • Overall delivery accountability and project assurance of projects.
  • Ensure that projects are delivered safely.
  • Appointment of suitably competent Project Managers, who shall be responsible for the successful delivery of the projects and appointment of the delivery team, including Project Technical Lead and Project Technical Reviewer.
  • Assure that project reports are a true and accurate reflection of the project status and ensure that appropriate reviews take place.
  • Providing bid phase leadership as a Bid Director.
  • Ensure project management and contract administration through the project life cycle.
  • Ensuring that there is a common understanding of requirements and scope, programme, costs, constraints, risk and interfaces across the team.
  • Leading the wider project team - building, motivating, maintaining, coaching, guiding, and developing the team.
  • Communicating, liaising, and engaging with the client on a project-by-project basis.
  • Ensure delivery of projects in accordance with governance arrangements for projects within corporate and business policies, directives, guidance, and procedures to ensure a robust outcome.
  • Ensure that projects are delivered to clients' requirements for Health, Safety, Environmental and Welfare, Technical Quality, Cost, and Schedule Management of Risk (and Opportunity) for the project from inception through to completion.
  • Mentoring and developing of Project Managers and other team members, as required.
Requirements
  • You are likely to have extensive experience of multi-disciplinary infrastructure project delivery experience. Ideally with a Project Management/Engineering background, with design management, project management and contract administration experience within the Highways and/or Local Transport market sector.
  • Experience of undertaking accountable Project Manager roles on multidisciplinary design projects (>£2M design fees per annum).
  • APM PMQ (or equivalent) recognised level of competence in Project Management - desirable.
  • Understands and has experience in deploying various forms of construction contract, in particular NEC3 or 4 and/or bespoke forms of contract.
  • Understanding of National Highways Standards.
  • Understanding of BIM.
  • Current driving licence.
