Road Maintenance Technician - Full-Time - $17.60/hr.

This is unskilled and semi-skilled work in the operation of public works equipment and duties involving the general maintenance of County owned roads, sidewalks, signage, shoulders, culverts and ditches. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Road & Bridge Foremen.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs manual labor duties requiring the use of hand tools such as shovels, picks, axes, saws, power drills, and post hole diggers.
  • Operates light equipment such as patch roller, forklift, weed eater, and zero-turn mowers.
  • Performs preparation and patching of damaged roadway areas, including shoveling and raking of materials.
  • Implements traffic control measures at work sites such as flagging and/or placing barricades.
  • Performs routine field lubrication of light, medium, and heavy vehicles, and equipment.
  • Performs daily safety and mechanical inspections of assigned equipment prior to and after use; performs routine and preventative service and maintenance as required. Reports larger issues that cannot be fixed in the field to the Foremen.
  • Operates a variety of major and minor powered machinery and equipment. Participate in crew work as workload demands, including but not limited to: cold/hot patching, sign repair, carpentry work, road and/or sidewalk repair, fence installation, jack hammering, painting, erosion control and drainage, tree trimming, Public Works facility maintenance, weed control, traffic control, excavation by hand, etc.
  • Uses hand-held mobile radios to coordinate tasks and resources.
  • Must be available to work in the event of an emergency, during storm events and/or on-call.

Requirements:

  • High school graduation or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.

  • Experience in the operation and routine maintenance of public works equipment is preferred.

  • Final decision of assignment to this job will be based on applicant's ability to demonstrate physical capability to operate and perform the illustrated tasks described herein.

  • LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS:

  • Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License, with no more than 3 points off of Driver’s License from infractions.

(A comparable amount of training, education or experience can be substituted for the minimum qualifications.)
