Student Support Liaison Job Description: 

An Olathe Public School Student Support Liaison is part of the School Counseling team in a high school building. This position works directly with students on social emotional concerns while also assisting students on academic concerns and college and career development. The Student Support Liaison has knowledge of community resources and link students and families to them. The Student Support Liaison is a strong student advocate and collaborates with all building educators to support students’ well-being. 

Major Areas of Responsibility: 

• Assist with student’s concerns regarding academic, emotional, or social problems 
• Help students process problems and take appropriate action 
• Work with students to develop personal goals and future plans 
• Mediate conflicts 
• Improve parent/teacher/student relationships 
• Collaborate and consult with parents, teachers, and other educators on community resources that would benefit students 
• Facilitate and deliver prevention programs to students, parents, and staff 
• Provide planned, short-term, and goal-focused individual counseling 
• Conduct counseling groups 
• Refer students to community-based mental health resources as needed 
• Provide support and assistance to students and families in crisis and emergency situations 
• Work on school teams to improve student learning 
• Analyze data to determine effectiveness of program goals and to guide future action 
• Tier1 – Tier3 supports for any and all students

• Adherence to legal and ethical standards of mental health licensure 
• Ability to time manage and multi-task 

Education and Experience 

• Master’s degree in a mental health field (Social Worker, Licensed Counselor, Marriage & Family Therapy, etc) Clinical licensure preferred. 
• Experience in a school setting preferred.
