Position Title: Director of Development

Organization: Old Town San Diego Chamber of Commerce & Historic Old Town Community Foundation

Position Overview

The Old Town San Diego Chamber of Commerce is seeking an experienced and dynamic Director of Development to join our team. This pivotal role will oversee all fundraising initiatives and development activities for both the Chamber of Commerce, 501(c)6 and its affiliated nonprofit, the Historic Old Town Community Foundation, 501(c)3. The Director of Development will be responsible for creating and implementing comprehensive development strategies to enhance the financial stability and growth of both organizations.

About the Old Town San Diego Chamber of Commerce

Established in 1940, the Old Town San Diego Chamber of Commerce is a nonprofit organization with a mission to preserve and celebrate the unique history and cultural heritage of the Old Town neighborhood. We work in partnership with local organizations and government entities to preserve historic buildings, monuments, cultural landmarks, and promote cultural events and traditions. Our goal is to ensure that the rich history of Old Town is remembered for generations to come.

Key Responsibilities

Fundraising and Development:

• Develop and execute a strategic fundraising plan that aligns with the mission and goals of the Chamber and the Foundation.
• Identify, cultivate, and solicit major gifts and sponsorships from individuals, corporations, foundations, and government entities.
• Oversee the planning and execution of fundraising events, campaigns, and donor recognition programs.
• Research grant proposals and assist in developing reports to secure funding from public and private sources.

Donor Relations:

• Build and maintain strong relationships with current and prospective donors and sponsors.
• Develop and implement strategies for retention and growth, including stewardship activities and recognition programs.
• Conduct donor and sponsor research and maintain accurate and up-to-date donor and sponsor records.

Communication and Outreach:

• Collaborate with the Executive Director to develop fundraising materials, including brochures, newsletters, and online content.
• Enhance the Chamber and Foundation's visibility through effective communication strategies, public relations, and community outreach.
• Serve as a spokesperson for the organizations at public events and in media appearances.

Foundation Management:

• Work closely with the Historic Old Town Community Foundation Advisory Committee to ensure alignment with strategic goals and objectives.
• Provide support and guidance to the Board in fundraising efforts and donor engagement.
• Monitor and report on the Foundation's fundraising performance and financial health.

Organizational Leadership:

• Participate in strategic planning processes to identify funding priorities and opportunities.
• Collaborate with the Executive Director and other senior leaders to advance organizational goals.
• Manage development staff and volunteers, providing training and support as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, business administration, communications, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in development, fundraising, or a related field, with a proven track record of success.
• Strong knowledge of fundraising principles, strategies, and best practices.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
• Ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
• Experience with donor management software and fundraising databases.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Passion for the mission and values of the Old Town San Diego Chamber of Commerce and the Historic Old Town Community Foundation.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $25.00 per hour

Schedule:

• Weekends as needed

Experience:

• Fundraising: 1 year (Preferred)
• Microsoft Office: 1 year (Preferred)

Ability to Commute:

• San Diego, CA 92110 (Preferred)

Ability to Relocate:

• San Diego, CA 92110: Relocate before starting work (Required)
