US Seasonal Labor Coordinator

Overview:

The Seasonal Labor Coordinator will work in tandem with the Senior Seasonal Labor Coordinator, LAC and the Ministry of Labor of Guatemala to bolster the Seasonal Labor Program, securing work visas for U.S. and Canada. By connecting with potential U.S. employers, they will promote Guatemala as a destination for workers. This role is pivotal in supporting the USAID Guatemala Migration Offices mission to promote safe, regular migration and economic opportunity to Guatemalans and reduce irregular migration.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Report to the USAID Guatemala Office, the Season Labor Coordinator will coordinate the work of the Senior Seasonal Labor Coordinator with the MO and LAC to track and follow up on labor employment opportunities for Guatemalans.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact and follow up for US companies, the Ministry of Labor, USAID MO/Guatemala, and LAC related to the Project H2 visas program.
  • Maintain a list of employers/contacts, their current employment, future for employment, relevant dates to that employment and recruitment and events/meetings to promote Guatemalan workers to those employers/recruiters/organizations.
    With the project team, define specific goals for:
  • Identifying U.S. states as strategic and competitive locations to position Guatemalan workers as a seasonal labor opportunity.
  • New companies to contact as potential employers of seasonal Guatemalan labor.
  • Presentations (face-to-face and/or virtual) to promote the seasonal labor program.
  • Develop a list of events to participate in to promote the Guatemalan Ministry program. Prepare proposals for ad hoc events to promote the Guatemalan temporary labor program, which includes, among others: developing the virtual setting for the event; propose communication and dissemination campaign; design the agenda proposal as per each events objectives; provide list of key guests and speakers; design and send "Save The Date" and final invitations.
  • Develop a list of advertising possibilities to promote the Guatemalan Ministry program in the US.
  • Conduct written and telephone communications with potential new employers.
  • Prospect and build relationships with new employers, including authorized agents and attorneys, interested in hiring employees in H2.
  • Coordinate program presentations with, but not limited to, USAID, RCP Project, US Embassy key players and MINTRABs high-level representatives, including the Minister when necessary or required.
  • Coordinate strategic communication and convene work meetings as needed with the local consultant assigned by the MINTRAB to serve as counterpart to follow up on the processes needed to respond to new employment opportunities.
  • Manage consultants and coordinate with other staff specifically supporting this activity.
  • Participate in coordination meetings, as required.
  • Support other tasks related to the subject, at the specific request of the project management.
Supervisory Responsibilities:

Education and/or Experience:
  • Bachelors in relevant field
  • 5 years working with USAID or USAID programing.
  • Ability to work in the United States and travel to Guatemala for work.
  • Experience working with USAID and USAID systems.
  • Experience or Knowledge of USAID Guatemala's Labor Mobility programing.
  • Knowledge of the labor situation and migration situation in Guatemala so as to be able to advocate to US Employers and to the LAC Migration team on policy.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to communicate effectively with senior representatives of Public and/or Private sectors.
  • Effective time management.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing both in English and Spanish.
  • Ability to manage diverse groups of professionals.
  • Ability to support organization of H2 conferences throughout the U.S.(virtual/presential).
