Only candidates who are currently authorized to work in the United States will be considered.Olympic College (OC) is recruiting a full-time tenure-track faculty to teach ESOL courses in Transitional Studies. OC is in search of faculty members who are deeply committed to student-centered education and the promotion of an inclusive and equitable learning environment. This position will be primarily based at our Shelton campus. As a comprehensive community college, we offer a wide range of programs, including Transitional Studies (e.g., high school diploma and GED preparation, and English for Speakers of Other Languages), academic transfer and workforce education degrees and certificates, five applied baccalaureate degrees, and community education services across our two-county region.Our institution is firmly dedicated to advancing excellence through a strong commitment to racial equity, with the goal of unlocking the full potential of all our students, regardless of their racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, sexual identity, gender identity, or differing ability. The ideal candidate for this position should have a proven history of employing culturally responsive teaching methods, using data analysis to inform their instructional approach, and providing guidance and mentorship to underrepresented student populations. The successful candidate will be skilled in making data-informed decisions in their teaching practices. This role primarily involves the preparation and delivery of courses in the English for Speakers of Other Languages program. This position will be primarily based at our Shelton campus.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Prepare and teach primarily ESOL course(s) in accordance with the college catalog, schedule of classes, course outlines, course syllabi, and any departmental guidelines, as well as basic computer and work readiness skills courses related to Transitional Studies courses.Teach in-person, hybrid and /or hyflex courses in Shelton and at other Olympic College campuses / sites in Kitsap and Mason counties, when required.Provide quality teaching including related preparation, grading, and record keeping; provide class syllabi to students enrolled in classes and to the division office as requested; provide academic advising and assessment for students.Contribute to development of program curriculum, assessments, and student learning outcomes.Interview and screen prospective students into the program through new student orientation.Administer Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment System (CASAS) Appraisal, Pre-tests, and Post-tests, and collect, submit, and analyze data for program reporting in the Web-based reporting system (LACES).Consult with students and assist in setting, documenting, and monitoring progress toward meaningful personal, professional, and educational goals.Maintain physical office hours for student consultation; attend faculty, department, and division meetings, serve on college committees, and participate in college governance.Assist with outreach and partner collaborations with organizations supporting ESOL learners.May require evening instruction.Perform related duties as assigned and/or required.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Terms of EmploymentThis is a full-time faculty position contracted on an annual basis. This position will be primarily based at our Shelton campus. Placement on the faculty salary schedule will be commensurate with educational background and experience. The salary will be prorated to reflect the actual contract days remaining in the academic year. The salary listed is a range based on per month for the quarter. A collective bargaining agreement exists, and this position is covered by the Association for Higher Education (AHE). Flexibility is required to meet the needs of the department. Evening and/or weekend classes, instruction at satellite Olympic College campuses, and off-campus assignments may be a part of the instructional load.
