We are looking for a skilled individual to join our team as Product Engineer. They will lead and execute New Product development and design for the full OmniMax portfolio of brands and products. This role is responsible for all new product development and design, creating and maintaining specifications, leading cost improvement projects and supporting the optimization of the portfolio. The focus of the role is on metals and composites but will support all products within the OmniMax company. They will be actively engaged in all aspects of NPD and lead engineering design and testing for all new products and assist the field sales team with engineering support. This position is within the Marketing Group and will work closely with product managers and plant engineers.

Requirements

We are searching for a candidate with:

  • Execute the engineering, design and testing of products in the new product development (NPD) projects within the stage gate framework while working within a cross-functional team from concept to commercialization. 
  • Responsible for designing, development, implementation, and analysis of technical products and systems. Generates engineering designs, performs design analysis, and recommends and implements product alterations to improve features and benefits as defined by front end marketing team/customers. 
  • Establishes, documents and maintains all product specifications (targets and tolerances) and process specs for new products. 
  • Detailed part drawings, assemblies and successfully completing documentation for new products. 
  • Establish a deep understanding of the full product portfolio and production processes and costs. 
  • Support the field and customers with drawings and engineering support as needed. 
  • Works closely with customer service to respond to inquiries about product design and usage that come in for warranty related questions through phone calls, social media and email. 
  • Create snow system layouts and take-offs based on structural engineering standards and perform snow load calculations. Recommend products based on application to customers and the sales team. 
  • Ensure the product meets or exceeds expectations from a cost, timing, and specification standpoint while working with Marketing, Industrial Design, Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain. 
  • Develops deep knowledge of materials, products, processes, equipment, and standards to be able to deliver on project objectives with speed and urgency. 
  • Works closely with manufacturing engineering to identify and develops process and equipment needed to produce specific products, parts, and components. 
  • Works closely with Procurement Team / supplier qualification team to define material specifications, execute qualification of 3rd party made parts, and achieve cost improvements as required by the business. 
  • Clearly communicates cross-functionally, both written and oral, with business leadership, front end marketing team/customers, vendors, and associates in manufacturing, sales, finance, customer care and Legal 
  • Builds and fosters cross-functional teamwork on all NPD, and process and cost improvement projects. 
  • Reviews, interprets and prepares a wide variety of documents including drawings, sketches, schematics, test reports, technical analysis, SOPs, and technical documents required for new product launches. 
  • Use proper judgment and business-sense when information is lacking or unclear. 

Duties and Responsibilities

A typical day may include:

  • Knowledge and experience in Aluminium, Steel and Copper based products and associated metal works processes is preferred. 
  • Proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or CATIA is required. 
  • Knowledge of Six-Sigma, Stage-Gate, and Designing, running, and analysing DOE’s is preferred. 
  • Must be detail oriented and possess problem solving and analytical skills. 
  • Demonstrated fluency with WORD, EXCEL, and PowerPoint are required. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. 
  • Must be entrepreneurial, a logical self-starter with customer-centric attitude. 
  • Able to handle multiple tasks and adjust priorities by impact with minimal oversight. 
  • Demonstrated high level of enthusiasm, perseverance and success building cross-functional teams. 
  • Ability to travel to customer sites and manufacturing locations up to 20% of the time.
