Summary of Position: For various projects as assigned, the Project Manager 1 is responsible for the integrated management of the full project lifecycle (from Idea Evaluation through launch, PMP phases 1-5), process improvement initiatives, cost saving projects, and/or new business development projects as assigned while developing and managing partnerships with internal and external stakeholders. The PM 1 is responsible for creating and maintaining the project plan and schedule, owning the project budgets and spending, and is responsible for ensuring that project objectives and milestones are met within time and budget constraints and with appropriate quality. The PM 1 will be expected to lead multi-discipline team members to execute the various deliverables of the project.
Knowledge and educational level
• Bachelor’s degree required; MBA desirable.
• Project Management Professional (PMP®) Certification from the Project Management Institute (PMI) a plus.
Required level of experiences
• Minimum 3 years of broad experience managing multi-disciplinary projects or teams to successful business outcomes, including documented evidence of applying project management best practices required.
• Minimum 3 years of demonstrated knowledge and experience working with, coordinating, or facilitating other relevant disciplines (budgeting and financial reporting, Quality, Sales and Marketing, Manufacturing) in the context of project work required.
• Project management experience in a technical function/field required.
• Project management experience in medical device strongly preferred.
Purpose of the job
The Project Manager 1 (PM 1) is responsible for the integrated management of the full project lifecycle (from Idea Evaluation through launch, PMP phases 1-5), process improvement initiatives, cost saving projects, and/or new business development projects as assigned while developing and managing partnerships with internal and external stakeholders. A PM 1 will be required to support the overall Project Management Office through active participation and contribution toward PMO functional initiatives. PM 1 projects are less complex or involve lower and narrower levels of the organization compared to PM 2.
Key Areas of Accountability / Responsibility
• Generate project plans and ensure that the project deliverables and milestones are met.
• Manage projects in terms of money, time, escalating scope changes, resource needs, quality and information/communication.
• Manage multiple projects or initiatives based on scope, complexity, and timelines (small to large scale projects).
• Ensure compliance of project team members with DSM Biomedical quality system requirements.
• Ensure a safe, healthy, and injury-free work environment.
• Report the progress of the project versus the project plan.
• Manage the risks related to the project and inform the appropriate authorities in case project objectives, milestones, quality, timing and/or budget incur risk.
• Manage external party expectations including those of the customer.
• Indirectly manage the project team members, create teambuilding and team spirit.
• Ensure compliance to Project Management Program standards.
