Job Description

Title:

Controller

Reportable to:

CEO

The Reports:

Accountants and Bookkeepers

Key Responsibilities:

Client's core values and beliefs daily, to positively contribute to the growth and development of the accounts department and all other employees

Provide advice on financial matters to management where required

The Tasks

Controller has immediate responsibility for:

  • Monitor and support day to day accounting activities to ensure performance targets are achieved and provide support where necessary in the Accounting department
  • Oversee Accounting department employees to monitor completion and timeliness of tasks required
  • Maintaining existing accounting and reporting systems that properly reflect the financial position.
  • Ensuring compliance with GAAP

Accountabilities:

  • Manages the accounting and reporting functions of the Group by:
  • Providing accurate and timely financial information
  • Ensuring the continued maintenance and development of internal control procedures to provide for the protection of Group assets
  • Oversees the financial reporting of the Group to various end users, both internal and external
  • Responsible for the preparation of budgets and the periodic analysis of budget variances
  • Prepares and reviews financial projections
  • Responsible for coordinating the filing of all applicable federal and state income tax returns
  • Responsible for the preparation of month-end financial statements
  • Responsible for new accounting standards, interpretations, and emerging guidance and their impact on the Group
  • Responsible for coordinating the preparation of all requested documents for the Group’s external financial statement audit
  • Develops accounting policies for the Group
  • Maintains the Group’s fixed asset records and related depreciation schedules
  • Participates with personnel throughout the Group as necessary, to assist in the resolution of accounting and financial management issues
  • Oversees the supervision, training, and evaluation of accounting department staff
  • Responsible for all general ledger reconciliations
  • Establishment and reporting of monthly KPI’s
  • Credit and other internal control procedures, controls, and monitoring
  • Liaise with other departments to improve procedures, accounting data source information, and other process improvements initiatives to enhance the timeliness and ease of reconciliations and accuracy of data.
  • Monitor payables and receivables
  • Prepare cash flows and other financial reports as required
  • Maintenance of staff wages, superannuation records and leave entitlements and assist staff with all relevant queries in this regard

Assumes additional responsibilities as requested including, but not limited to the following:

  • Assists with special projects and assignments related to financial decisions
  • Serves as an informational resource for federal and state examiners, and internal and external auditors
  • Assists in ensuring that the Group is in compliance with local, state and federal regulations
  • Ensures continued maintenance and development of internal control procedures
  • Provides financial management support for projects as requested by Senior Management

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in finance, accounting or economics required.
  • Master’s degree or additional professional designation (e.g. CPA or CFA) highly preferred
  • Minimum of ten years of accounting, audit and financial experience required with a demonstrated familiarity with accounting principles and corporate taxation
  • Significant work experience having been gained in a commercial environment
  • Comprehensive knowledge of broad-based financial functions in addition to financial accounting standards required
  • Demonstrated management and supervisory experience with strong interpersonal skills required
  • Strong communication and presentation skills required
