Position Summary

Amacon is currently looking for an Construction Safety Coordinator with experience in high rise and multifamily building construction to oversee an innovative condo development in downtown Denver. Reporting to the Safety Officer, this position will represent the company from a safety & risk standpoint and implement risk management policies and procedures to protect Amacon’s assets and minimize accidents, incidents, budget loss or liability exposures. The Construction Safety Coordinator will work in the field The position is responsible to review and ensure compliance with health and safety guidelines and align with city regulations and safety bylaws.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist with executing the safety strategy and zero accident culture on the project.
  • Work in tandem with Site Superintendents on all related risk and safety matters.
  • Participate in safety meetings and maintain safety-meeting minutes.
  • Monitoring daily construction activities for compliance with OSHA and company rules/policies
  • Implement the project’s safety program
  • Maintain proper safety related documentations, programs and initiatives.
  • Walk jobsites on a regular basis and prepare formal safety worksite reports and formal field inspections.
  • Maintain emergency preparedness plans and incident management protocols.
  • Prepare and enforce policies to establish a culture of health and safety.
  • Ensure the Safe Work Procedures are communicated to Subcontractor personnel prior to the start of any work activities.
  • Ensure the all site workers and visitors maintain required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Evaluate practices, procedures, and facilities to assess risk and adherence to the law.
  • Conduct or facilitate training and presentations for health and safety matters and accident prevention including: fall protection, scaffolding, electrical, OSHA-10 and OSHA-30 hour
  • Administrate the Subcontractors Safety Documentation, safety training cards and required documents.
  • Monitor compliance to policies and laws by inspecting employees and operations.
  • Inspect equipment and machinery to observe possible unsafe conditions.
  • Investigate accidents or incidents to discover causes and handle worker’s compensation claims.
  • Cease affected work activities until an identified health and safety problem has been resolved.
  • Report on health and safety awareness, issues, and statistics.
  • Membership in First Aid Committee and maintain a first aid facility that meets and exceeds the requirements of OSHA.
  • Map out emergency evacuation plans, including locations for fire extinguishers and first-aid kits.
  • Consult building codes, government regulations and other emergency response agencies to ensure that the workplace is compliant with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Provide incident reports to the Site Superintendent and Amacon Construction Management.
  • Various other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Skills & Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma is required and an associate degree in safety or health or similar is a plus.
  • Experience : 3 years of professional construction safety experience
  • Certifications : OSHA training
  • Experience with a general contractor preferred
  • Understanding of legal health and safety guidelines
  • Ability in producing reports and developing relevant policies
  • Ability to maintain accurate records of plans, examinations, and inspections
  • Good knowledge of data analysis and risk assessment
  • Outstanding attention to detail and observation ability
  • Excellent organizational, motivational, and time management skills
  • Ability to work unsupervised and within a team environment
  • Ability to communicate technical information
  • Ability to work well within timelines
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to build strong relationships with diverse internal and external groups, and work effectively and creatively in a collaborative manner
  • Valid Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Bilingual is an asset
  • Computer Skills: Knowledge of PC and a strong understanding of the Microsoft Office Suite

Physical Requirements:

Position requires the Construction Safety Officer to frequently walk, stand, and climb stairs/ladders and in/around construction site. Must maintain professional appearance and be able to work in a construction environment in all weather conditions (rain, snow, heat, hail, wind, sleet), around hazardous chemicals, dust, dirt, and other particulates. Must also have the ability to operate an automobile, read large quantities of information, operate computer equipment, speak, hear, bend, stoop, reach, lift, move and carry up to 100 lbs. independently. Finger dexterity is necessary.
