Job Description
Metro Detroit Insurance Company has an immediate opening for an experienced Staff Accountant with 2-3 years of experience t o join their team. This is a full-time, in-office position that will be based out of the company’s headquarters in Birmingham, MI.
The Staff Accountant will report to the Controller and will assist various accounting functions, reconciliations, and will prepare and review various financial documents, reports, and statements as directed. Must have strong experience with Excel for this role.
Responsibilities:
- Assist Controller with day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger accounting, accounts payable, cash balance monitoring.
- Prepare and/or review appropriate ledger entries and reconciliations.
- Process various accounting transactions ensuring proper account coding.
- Process accounts payable invoices and expense reports.
- Perform job cost analyses and track labor hours against projects.
- Prepare monthly bank account reconciliations.
- Maintain various accounting records.
- Generate financial statement schedules.
- Maintain the general ledger system statements.
- Assist with preparation of monthly and annual financial statements and other financial reports as needed.
- Research accounting issues for compliance with generally accepted accounting principles.
- Assist Controller with identifying and resolving any gaps and variances.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- CPA OR MBA preferred.
- 2-3 years of prior experience in a corporate accounting role.
- Requires advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Office, and Excel.
- Experience with Sage Intacct ERP is a plus!
- In-depth knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, management and financial policies, and tax regulations.
- Ability to prioritize work to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Provide timely financial reports.
