As a Respiratory Therapy Supervisor, you will s u p e r v i s e assigned respiratory caregivers and perform respiratory care as needed. This position will assist in creating caregiver scheduled, maintain caregiver records, oversee and direct all activities regarding respiratory therapy caregivers, assist with performance evaluations, give feedback, and serve as a resource to the caregivers you supervise.

Responsibilities:
  • Oversees and directs all activities regarding respiratory therapy personnel.
  • Assists with the development of employee schedules, maintains employee records and assures accurate time keeping.
  • Assists with employee performance evaluations and gives appropriate feedback.
  • Serves as a resource to staff.
  • Assists staff with identifying and utilizing learning resources available within the hospital/community.
  • Assists with the development of an ongoing program of orientation, training and education for new employees and students.
  • Participates in the development and maintenance of a performance improvement program.
  • Takes measures to continuously improve the quality of services delivered.
  • Participates in the writing, reviewing, and updating of the Respiratory Therapy policies and procedures.
  • Assists with the development of the departmental budget, ensuring the availability of equipment and supplies.
  • Ensures compliance with all regulatory agencies and state law requirements.
  • Participates in long term strategic planning and marketing of department services.
  • At sites where applicable, the employee will perform blood gas puncture and analysis.
  • If the employee is designated as a Technical Consultant by the blood gas Laboratory Director, the employee must meet minimum qualifications as specified by the CLIA code of federal regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education:
  • Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
  • Associate's degree required.
  • Bachelor's degree strongly preferred.
  • Diploma and/or transcripts must be provided for validation.
Certifications:
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) and licensed by the Ohio Board for Respiratory Care (RCP).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) through American Heart Association (AHA), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) through American Heart Association (AHA) and Neonatal Pediatric Specialist (NPS) through NBRC with a minimum of 3 years working in a neonatal/pediatric area at sites where appropriate
Competencies (Complexity of Work):
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action
Work Experience:
  • Minimum three years experience in critical care along with leadership, education and/or research activities.
  • At sites where appropriate, neonatal/pediatric experience required.
Physical Requirements:
  • Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
  • Normal hearing and vision or corrected to normal range.
  • May require sitting, standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
Personal Protective Equipment:
  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
