SUMMARY
Telecom Technician who performs varied tasks of complexity requiring the application of standard procedures. Responsible for installation, decommission and troubleshooting problems of Internet and network equipment for residential customers on Vandenberg AFB. This includes the fiber, transport equipment and all critical infrastructures within. Knowledge with circuit provisioning, maintenance, test equipment, telecommunication equipment, installation and acceptance.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Install Internet and associated equipment into homes and dorms on Vandenberg SFB.
- Pulls cables, installs and trims devices, terminates loops, circuits, or other data gathering points.
- Terminates main control panels, racks, or other head end equipment, as well as, testing of all circuits from field devices to main control panels and equipment.
- Uses hand tools to assemble and install communication lines and equipment systems, antennas, towers and disassembles electronic equipment to adjust, repair, and replace parts.
- Starts up, programs and documents systems and installations.
- Records and tracks network interface device serial number for purpose of inventory management.
- Runs jumpers to provide connectivity inside facility.
- Places drop wire connecting facility with fiber access point.
- Utilizes test equipment for the purpose of troubleshooting and verifying the integrity of circuits.
- Measures, cuts, splices, connect, solders, and installs wire and cables associated with communications systems.
- May provision fiber optic network nodes by terminating main control panels, racks and other equipment; performs tests on all circuits from field devices to the main control panels and/or equipment
- May include assisting with conduit placement at customer facility.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Must have Excellent communication skills to manage interactions with customers.
- Knowledgeable in standards for placing low voltage wiring.
- Good work ethic and diligence regarding safety policies and practices.
- Able to work independently and with minimum supervision.
- Diligent in accomplishing firm and challenging production standards.
- High school diploma, GED.
- Intermediate computer skills including Microsoft Office, any Lead person should have five years’ prior experience as foreman in telecommunications construction.
