Join our energizing team as we pursue renewable energy projects and support the decarbonization of the US power grid. As a member of the Energy Resources and Business Development team, the Senior Energy Resources Manager will create, support, manage and grow renewable energy income sources across Rayonier’s land base to meet organizational targets for growth and scale of the business. The Energy Resources, Senior Manager will work collaboratively with their team and with other internal stakeholders in Forest Resources and Real Estate to maximize net-present value of the land base through collaboration and safe and efficient operations.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Create, support, manage, and grow a broad portfolio of renewable energy businesses including solar, wind, storage, and other emerging technologies across Rayonier’s land base.
  • Provide appropriate supervision to ensure developers, subcontractors and consultants comply with contractual obligations as well as all applicable BMPs, permits, rules and regulations. Keep regional staff updated with the status of operations. Prioritize and coordinate efforts with their participation.
  • Build meaningful relationships and partnerships with contractors, neighboring landowners, our communities, and land users.
  • Develop strategies, recommendations, and communication to leadership and external stakeholders on renewable energy projects and opportunities.
  • Communicate and coordinate efficient field operations between Energy Resources, the broader Land Resources and Business Development team, Resource Units and Real Estate and Community Development teams.
  • Support efforts to classify Rayonier’s land for suitability of renewable energy projects, communicating evaluation criteria and updating regularly.
  • Perform financial and analytical analysis of solar business opportunities and participate in discussions to determine the highest and best use of Rayonier’s land.
  • Commit to continuous learning and finding new and innovative ways of doing things to achieve industry leading returns and long-term sustainable growth.
  • Support budgeting and forecasting for the Energy Resources businesses. Collaborate with members of the Land Resources and Business Development team so that they understand the operations and financials within their region and include their input into financial targets.
  • Evaluate, track, and communicate power market trends.
  • Make safety a way of life and commit to “standing in the gap” and fixing it when you see a potential safety risk.
  • Understand your responsibility for environmental stewardship and take careful measures to ensure the long-term sustainability of our forest ecosystems, as well as the wildlife, soils, and water within them.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, forestry, engineering or related field
  • 5 years of experience with greenfield utility scale renewable energy project development including project siting and design, land control agreements, interconnection, scheduling, budgeting, environmental permitting, requests for proposals (RFPs), power purchase agreements (PPAs), project financing and construction management.
  • Ability to optimize and grow the renewable energy business with a strategic mindset and innovation. Solar industry knowledge including key players, current events, trends, risks, subsidies, tariffs and best management practices.
  • Ability to perform financial analyses of business opportunities.
  • Ability to manage and coordinate appraisal, financial analysis, environmental assessments, permitting, legal review, etc.
  • Ability to communicate, collaborate, and manage relationships with internal stakeholders and customers.
  • Ability to manage relationships and performance of contractors and vendors.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
