The organization is entering Year 4 of its ambitious 10-year goal to ensure 100,000 more students have access to a high-quality public education in their neighborhood, including investing in the great ideas and new learning environments of more than 650 current and future education leaders and bringing $100M into the market to create the conditions for great schools to thrive. 

The current landscape: In Nevada, despite a nearly 82% statewide graduation rate, less than 1 in 5 high school students are on grade level in math and less than half are on grade level in English Language Arts. Opportunity 180 seeks to partner with the broader community to lead both practice-based and policy-centered solutions to the State’s persistent educational challenges, and to do so by unifying around a common vision for success based on evidence and data. This requires a coordinated effort to align around a single North Star and deploy sustainable strategies to ensure efforts to meet the educational needs of kids can launch and thrive. 

To meet these ambitious goals and build the conditions needed to strengthen and amplify our work, we are seeking a Compliance and Grants Manager who can ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of our grants to schools and partners as well as our grants compliance systems; and, work to support our schools in strengthening their own compliance systems so they can focus their time and energy on improving outcomes for the families and students they serve.

Role Snapshot:

LEAD the implementation and monitoring of Opportunity 180 federal grant administration and quality assurance/quality control of the internal process for non-federal Opportunity 180 grants, including the tracking and documentation of all related activities. 

GUIDE compliance support to schools in the Opportunity 180 portfolio to improve the efficiency and quality of compliance.

COORDINATE the materials needed for strong collaboration between all team members and stakeholders related to grants and compliance.

The role breakdown: 70% on grant administration and compliance, 20% on compliance support to schools, 10% general administration and professional development aligned to roles and responsibilities

The Compliance and Grants Manager at Opportunity 180 will serve as the compliance and grants go to with the specific objectives to:

  • Successfully oversee the implementation of all grants, ensuring adherence to timelines and objectives.
  • Initiate and oversee grant activities, including eligibility and grant award activity, compliance and site monitoring, and compliance technical assistance. 
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of all grant activities, facilitating easy access, analysis, and review.
  • Improve the efficiency and quality of the internal compliance process by developing streamlined processes and procedures.
  • Support schools in the Opportunity 180 portfolio 
    • Reduce the number of compliance-related issues and incidents internally and externally through proactive support, guidance, and monitoring.
  • Identify and facilitate regular communication and feedback loops to maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to improve grant and compliance processes.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Grant Implementation and Monitoring 
    • Track and document the activities, inputs, and outcomes, of all grant activities outlined in the Logic Model and Management Plan for Federal Charter School Program Grant.
    • Ensure all grant-related activities are performed in compliance with applicable terms and conditions, regulations, and requirements. 
    • Directly interface with applicants and subgrantees throughout the awards cycles and subgrantee monitoring regarding anything grant-related.
    • Lead execution of the tasks of all grant activities, inclusive of those potentially supported by contractors.
    • Provide technical guidance to subgrant applicants throughout the application, award, and monitoring processes, including interpretation and communication of often complex federal regulatory requirements.
    • Prepare accurate and timely reports related to grant activities to internal and external stakeholders.
    • Liaise with Finance Team Members to support grant reimbursements review and approval. 

  • Compliance support with schools 
  • Create and implement strategies to enhance the efficiency and quality of compliance processes across the Opportunity 180 portfolio.
    • Conduct regular audits and assessments to identify areas for improvement with internal systems and among state systems used by schools in Nevada.
    • Facilitate collaboration and trainings for the school support team on themes around compliance strengths and needs within the Opportunity 180 portfolio.
  • Work in close partnership with the school support team at Opportunity 180 and state authorizing and oversight entities to align systems and processes and maintain operational efficiencies for charter schools.
  • Attend relevant conferences and convenings to stay up-to-date on national and regional best practices and research; apply these learnings to the work and partnership activities.

  • Coordination of materials for collaboration between stakeholders
    • Manage the grant and school database and work with the program and school support team to ensure that data is up-to-date and accurate.
    • Liaise with Data Manager to ensure accurate information is tracked and recorded associated with grant activity.
    • Work with the school support team to maintain records of all school interactions.
    • Prepare agendas and materials to ensure alignment with the program and school support teams. 
    • Support organizational special projects and strategy development, as needed.

Success in this position will require the following.

  • 3 years of experience in one of these capacities:
    • In a similar role ideally with a mission-driven organization
    • Grant management and compliance, preferably within the education sector
    • As a K-12 teacher successfully managing your classroom
    • Related experience or equivalent combination
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Windows software including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Must be proficient in Gsuite
  • Preferred experience in Survey Monkey Apply and Airtable
  • May be required to work evenings and weekends on occasion
  • Experience, coursework, or other training in principles and practices of relevant field

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: A current Nevada State-issued Driver’s License and current automobile insurance coverage, including automobile registration.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • The salary range for this position is $65,000 - $75,000
