Optimal Staffing is Hiring a Production Engineer Near Elkhart, IN

Job Title: Electric Vehicle Production Engineer
Work Location: Optimal EV Plant, 29449 Old US Hwy 33, Elkhart, IN 46516
Work Hours: 6 am to 3 pm (same as regular production time at the plant; negotiable).
Qualifications
  • Basic understanding of structural mechanics, fluid mechanics, thermal, and electrical circuits, such that you are potentially prepared for the production of electric vehicle.
  • Excellent math background to optimize the workflow and balance cells.
  • Experience with CAD software such as Catia.
  • Good knowledge and experience of how regular tools should be used, and how the work process should be, and the workflow at a plant; need to enjoy working at a plant and have high respect for workers.
  • Experience with ERP (Enterprise resource planning) system.
  • Very good at writing and documentation.
  • Good communication skills, and a team player: communicate to both engineering team and workers, and get the work done.
  • Critical thinking and self-learning skills.
  • Looking for a hardworking, ambitious yet careful - you may lead the full process work of the whole plant and improve production. Grow together - sky is your limit.
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering.
ResponsibilitiesPriority is in the order of high (top) to low (down) below (i.e., 1. Highest priority; 12. is also important, and it is a long-term task)
  • Review the build prints issued by Engineering team to provide comments on whether the design is feasible and efficient before production. Optimal EV focuses on the production of EV vehicles - EV Chassis and EV Bus.
  • Release the build prints to the workers: (1) manage the revision history of the build print such as -AA, -AB, -AC, and understand all the difference among them, and when to use them, (2) fully understand the design intention of the build prints, and explain the work content to workers, (3) during the installation per build print, double check whether the work is executed to the intention of the build print, and if there is a deviation, need to issue a deviation and ask for approval. Basically, need to have full understanding of the design - mechanical (structures), thermal (coolant), and electrical (wire harness), explaining them to the workers, and help address the issues found by communicating to the engineering team timely.
  • Interpret the sales order, work order, and confirm build prints are consistent. Order parts on time, which are in the ERP system. Any issues should be communicated with the engineering team and purchase team.
  • Document the manufacturing issues and feedback: if issues are related to design, issue feedback to engineering team by ECR (Engineering change request); if design is proven good, provide feedback to engineering team to approve the design.
  • Set up quality check points based on the work content of the build print - torques, gaps, electrical connectors, clamps for coolant hose, etc., and form a quality check list, and get approval from engineering team.
  • Take care of calibration work of the tools such as torque wrenches regularly - track the history and either do it in-house or outsource the calibration work.
  • Help design the templates or jigs to facility production and quality checks.
  • Participate in training sessions to explain the work content, and how to use certain tools properly.
  • Writing work instructions - writing your own and reviewing others.
  • Help use math tools to optimize the workflow to balance the work cells.
  • Eventually, need to take care of MBOM (Manufacturing Bill of Materials) construction work based on EBOM (Engineering Bill of Materials).
  • Eventually, help learn and propose advanced technology to help the process of the plant for automation and digitization to improve efficiency and labor saving - get your assigned work done, and meanwhile learn and master new technologies.
