THE ROLE

The Compliance Specialist role will help establish company guidelines and direction for all regulatory compliance activities on a domestic and international level. Provide knowledge of current and future regulations for all our products with a heavy focus on children’s and cosmetic products. Monitor changes in regulations and legislation and evaluate impacts on existing and upcoming products. The Compliance Specialist is also responsible for registering our products as required, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with our safety and compliance consultants to build and execute effective and efficient SOPs for domestic and international markets, ensuring regulatory compliance for all new product development regarding chemical, formula, and packaging compliance for all our products (including but not limited to children’s and cosmetic products)
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations (including but not limited to MOCRA CSPC, CPSC)
  • Support vendors by providing clear and complete third-party testing requirements for our products as well facility certification/audits needed (GMP, ISO, etc)
  • Request, review and organize domestic and international region-specific ingredient listings as needed
  • Provide regulatory guidance, advice, risk analysis, and insight for future and existing products to achieve compliance and meet business objectives
  • Ensure compliance of all processes and procedures to applicable standards and regulations internally and by vendors
  • Communicate proactively within the company on regulatory strategies, key issues, and any other critical topics throughout the product life-cycle
  • Collaborate with the internal team to review and approve product labelling/artwork and other marketing materials to ensure compliance with applicable regulations
  • Maintain knowledge of current and upcoming domestic and international cosmetic and children’s product regulations, initiating change when demanded by new regulations or business practices
  • Request, audit and manage testing lab reports, regulatory files and control documents such as SDS, TRAs, COA, CPC, etc. to ensure all information is accurate and up to date
  • Complete Certificate of Conformity forms as requested
  • Complete timely preparation of documents and submit for product filings & registration as required e.g., FDA, Cosmetics Supervision and Administration Regulation (CSAR), US Cosmetics Regulatory compliance, California Safe Cosmetics Act, Health Canada, CNF, EU, CPNP, Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), etc.
  • Maintain and support development of internal claims and regulatory databases (e.g., restricted chemical lists, etc.)
  • Perform other duties as needed and directed by management

EXPERIENCE

3 or more years of experience in regulatory affairs preferably in a cosmetic, personal care or baby products company

  • Must be a practitioner of and have a solid understanding of regulations surrounding children’s products and cosmetics including US-FDA, FPLA (Fair Packaging and Labeling Act), FDC (Food, Drug, & Cosmetic Act), EU Cosmetic Regulation 1223/2009, and Health Canada

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with employees and all other internal and external contacts
  • Ability to demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness, looking for ways to improve processes and procedures
  • Ability to think strategically and be extremely detail oriented
  • Collaborative working style, ability to foster effective working relationships within a team environment
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively.
  • Cosmetic ingredient and regulations knowledge
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office Suite

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 4-year degree from accredited college/university

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing

PAY: The compensation range for this role is $24-$31 per hour. Actual compensation is influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to skills, experience, qualifications, and geographic location. This is a non-exempt position.
