Ophthalmic Technician
Job Description
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
· Complete a detailed patient history which includes: past ocular history, family history, past medical history, medications, allergies, chief complaint and any other pertinent information in electronic medical record
· Take accurate visual acuity
· Instill eye drops properly
· Neutralizes eyeglasses by either manual or automated lensometer
· Performs color testing
· Preforms amsler grid testing
· Performs Visual Fields – automated and confrontation
· Performs OCT – all aspects (MAC,RNFL)
· Performs Fundus Photo, Fluorescein Angiography & ICG Angiography
· Performs pupil assessment – PERRLA and APD
· Performs Tonometry using a Tono Pen
· Assist with in office procedures: Intravitreal injections, lasers, cryotherapy, pneumatics
· Sending prescription to pharmacies
· Surgery scheduling
· Explains procedure to patient and has patient sign consent
· Scribes with various doctors
· Maintain clean, organized and well stocked exam rooms
· Uphold office policies and procedures
QUALIFCATIONS
· 1 years’ of experience as an ophthalmic technician
· Knowledgeable of Ophthalmology and medical terminology
· Knowledge of OSHA and HIPPA Compliance Standards
· Travels between offices as needed
· Excellent clinical skills, ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with patients, physicians and staff
· Ability to multi-task, set priorities and ensure patient commitments/deadlines are met
