The Team
The Manager, Mass Market Fundraising is a member of the Advancement Operations team, which is part of OHS' Advancement Team along with the Philanthropy, Marketing & Communications, and Planned Giving teams. The Advancement Team is responsible for developing the resources needed to advance OHS' mission, ensuring we can deliver the programs and services most needed by our community. The team is made up of a group of passionate individuals who work every day to help raise funds, build awareness, steward current and cultivate new donors, and help OHS protect and care for as many animals and their people as possible.
The Position
The Manager, Mass Market Fundraising develops innovative ways to meet strategic goals as measured by consistent annual growth in donor participation, revenue generation, and retention. This role plans and develops creative, data-driven tactics that inspire mass market donors to invest in OHS' mission. The Manager, Mass Market Fundraising also oversees a team of development professionals to support the administration, evaluation, and execution of fundraising programs.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Collaborate with the Director, Advancement Operations and Marketing & Communications Team to support the creation of comprehensive mass market fundraising strategies aligned with organizational goals and budgetary targets.
  • In collaboration with the Marketing & Communications and Events teams, implement and oversee prospecting and cultivation tactics to bring in new Mass Market donors.
  • In collaboration with the Marketing & Communications and Events teams, implement and support the execution of email, direct mail, and event components of mass market donor solicitation campaigns.
  • In collaboration with the Marketing & Communications, Philanthropy, and Events teams, implement and oversee recognition and stewardship activities to retain mass market donors and advance them through the pipeline to the Mid-Level and Major Gifts teams.
  • Work closely with the Marketing & Communications Team to ensure alignment and integration of messaging, branding, and impact reporting across all fundraising efforts.
  • Develop and manage annual budgets for mass market fundraising activities, ensuring efficient use of resources and maximizing return on investment.
  • Provide mentorship, guidance, and support to a team of fundraising professionals, fostering a collaborative and results-driven work environment.
  • In collaboration with the Advancement Services and Marketing & Communications teams, utilize data-driven insights to monitor performance, identify trends, and optimize fundraising tactics for continuous improvement and growth.
  • Keep up to date on current philanthropic trends and best practices to stay at the forefront of fundraising innovation.

Supervises: Manager, Fundraising Programs (mid-level & major); Manager, Fundraising Programs (mass market); Coordinator, Advancement Operations
ACCOUNTABILITY
Reports Directly To: Director, Advancement Operations& Fundraising Programs
Often Engages Directly With: Advancement Operations Team; Marketing & Communications Team; Philanthropy Team
Qualifications

  • 5 years of nonprofit fundraising experience.
  • 2 years of people management experience. Ability to motivate, inspire, mentor, and empower team members through constructive feedback and modeling.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication with ability to communicate clearly and concisely and openly give and receive feedback.
  • Ability to develop innovative and creative concepts - both in collaboration with others and independently - that align with brand and fundraising objectives.
  • Ability to collaborate and build/maintain relationships across the Advancement Team and with cross-functional partners.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work collaboratively and independently under pressure, manage multiple diverse projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines.
  • Preferred:
  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in marketing, communications, advertising, or a related field.
Work Environment Conditions & Physical Requirements
This position interacts and collaborates will all levels of the organization, including OHS staff, executive team members, donors, general-public, external vendors, volunteers, and supporters. Contact and communication are carried out through face-to-face, telephone and digital interactions. Excellent customer service skills are essential to success. Communication must be clear, understandable, professional and respectful in all circumstances.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Work is performed in an office and medical center/animal shelter environment.
  • Travel between the two campuses may be required.
  • Working at both campuses may be required.
  • Occasional weekend and evening work may be required.
  • Animal contact and related injuries may occur.
  • Noise exposure varies and sometimes includes uncontrolled barking and other animal vocalizations.
  • Pace of work is active and demanding, requiring a high degree of multitasking and ability to adapt to changing priorities while managing concurrent projects/tasks to completion.
  • This position primarily resides within Oregon Humane Society campus which is open to the public. Contact with emotional people may occur.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Occasional lifting and moving of inanimate objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Occasional pushing and pulling of carted items weighing up to 100 lbs.
  • Occasional moving items above shoulder level.
  • Occasional use of hands and arms at or above shoulder level.
  • Prolonged standing, sitting and/or stooping may occur.
  • Occasional climbing and bending.
  • Must be able to lift, move, restrain, guide, or manage an animal weighing up to 150 lbs. on a leash on an occasional basis.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to respond and perform life saving techniques in an emergency.
