Oregon State University is Hiring a Construction Project Manager 2 Near Corvallis, OR

This recruitment will be used to fill one full-time Construction Project Manager 2 position in the College of Agricultural Sciences at Oregon State University (OSU).

The purpose of this position is to assist the Cost and Project Manager of the College of Agricultural Sciences (CAS) and Oregon Agricultural Experiment Station (OAES), the statewide branch stations, and the departments of the College of Agricultural Sciences, concerning space needs and utilization, maintenance of facilities, safety and fire hazards, remodeling, facilities planning, and construction of new facilities. Other responsibilities include (1) providing preliminary planning through discussions with clients and computer-aided design proposals; (2) providing complete and concise cost estimates for both new facilities and the alterations of existing ones; (3) making on site evaluations to create as-built documentation of existing facilities by means of surveying and physical measurements; (4) prepare complete construction documents with written specifications for both new facilities and the remodel of existing facilities by means of a computer-aided design system (ACAD) and word processor; (5) consult with building officials, engineers, contractors, and suppliers regularly; (6) manage construction budgets and projects through inspections and discussions to ensure adherence with plans and specifications; (7) maintain, revise, and update all site and building plans/records.

Key Responsibilities

40% Manage the preparation of complete construction documents/contracts and provide a working knowledge of construction materials and methods. Prepare complete architectural schematics, working drawings, and specifications with a computer-aided design system (ACAD) and word processor. Where applicable, negotiate and manage subcontracts for electrical, mechanical, and structural engineering services.

30% Manage construction projects through inspections and discussions with contractors to ensure adherence to plans and specifications by driving to and from all branch experiment stations, farms, centers, institutes, and program sites. Also, establish the project budget, maintain all accounts, evaluate/monitor progressive billings, and provide project reporting.

10% Chair project scope meetings to discuss space needs, construction options, and project design concepts.

10% Prepare complete/concise as-built drawings at AES unit job sites for facility locations, dimensions, structural elements, elevations, and grades.

5% Consult with building officials and planners to research state, county, and city codes/regulations.

5% Other duties as assigned

What We Require

Three years of engineering or architectural experience which includes one year of experience as a project manager for projects involving building construction and site development; AND A Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a closely-related field or three additional years of relevant engineering and/or architectural experience.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030.

What We Would Like You To Have

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and construction project management
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, and Outlook computer software programs
  • Knowledge of agricultural practices and equipment
  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or Engineering
  • 5 years of Direct Construction experience
  • 5 years of Architectural Drafting experience

Working Conditions / Work Schedule

Duties require working in an office, often in confined spaces, laboratories, and on elevated surfaces (roof access, catwalks, ladders, etc.). The incumbent in this position may be exposed to asbestos, high noise levels, and areas where energy control is required. Lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds is sometimes required, and up to 20 pounds is often required (e.g., laser level). Travel to job sites across the state is regularly required.
